@CowingMalcolm The EU does not have open borders. It (like the UK on a smaller scale) has a Common Travel Area for the member nations. Once you satisfy the BF official of its outer borders you are cleared into all members using SIS that the UK wanted when it left. .& read the rest of my thread

This would not happen if we still had our Freedom of Movement rights which *we* chose to end. So of course it is not "thanks to EU" it is very much thanks to Brexit. It is tiresome to still see these sort of headlines.

How is Norway able to fund such a Defence budget when we aren’t? One factor is they’re still drilling in the North Sea - we buy their fossil fuels from the same basin we deny ourselves the economic benefit from. Madness.

Because @freethinker967, as Frost admitted in the Brexit trade negs, UK could not afford not to. HO conceded there'd not be enough extra capacity needed for Brexit. .

Sooner or later it is going to dawn on Ed Miliband and the rest of the government that anger over Britain’s sky-high energy prices is not going to go away.
They are no longer going to be able to conceal the obvious evidence that UK consumers and businesses are paying significantly more for their energy than their counterparts in comparable countries. They are also not going to get away with blaming the war in Iran, nor with maintaining the pretence that the government’s green policies are helping to bring down bills.

I agree with everything in this article. The cuts to particle, nuclear and astro physics research in the UK will be devastating, not only to the fields themselves but also to universities more widely and, in the longer term, to industry and therefore the economy as a whole. They were not thought through, there was little or no consultation, and I do not believe they have the support of parliament. The SI&T select committee has been ignored, indeed pretty much everyone who knows anything about the successful but delicate research ecosystem in the UK has been ignored.
