@_Jamieee___ Who says they need a mandate? They have the power to do it, that's all that matters. The Labour Right want to keep him out of Westminster, and that's what they will do. If it means burning the party to the ground, they'll do it

@LeftieStats I see that point, but I don't think it's a guarantee, especially if Burnham resigns as mayor, because without Starmer, the NEC would have absolutely no mandate or justification to block Burnham (not that that would necessarily stop them).
