There’s going to be bad teams in sports. That’s how sports work. The thing that irks me the most about perpetual tanking discourse is that it flattens out any distinction between bad teams and “tanking teams.” Every team can’t win 50 games! There’s basic math involved here!

But there’s always value to be had. Like trading for Jared McCain for a specific role. Or drafting Mitchell/Herro/Garland and flipping them in trades

I heard that Darius Acuff Jr. might be the worst defender in the NBA next year. Watched his defense during the SEC Championship to see if people were exaggerating. It's pretty rough.

You’ll say he’s a primary on a contender but he’s never made a conference finals and hasn’t ever been that close either

There are about 10 players in the league good enough to be primaries on contenders lol and if we’re being honest it’s probably 5. That cannot be the bar

@wockhardtflame @thieroprop @MT_Lazarus @Rocket5Burner I’m not even that high on Acuff, he’s not in my top ten. But there’s an offensive upside that still makes him a very intriguing prospect despite the defense.
Many teams are spending real money on small guards who can’t play defense. I would prefer not to but you also need talent

2) Acuff has a better 3PR than Maxey in college
3) the Kyrie point doesn’t make any sense because a) so he does contribute to winning and b) no one expects Acuff to be the LeBron/Luka 1A on a contender

All of this was predictable and, even more damning, avoidable. Silver could have said the day after the trade deadline, “we will strip your pick if we see egregious tanking”.
Instead, he fined the Jazz $500k. For context, the Jazz would probably pay $500m for their draft pick.

Giannis is one of my favorite players of all time and I’m beyond annoyed with how this season has been handled by him. Yeah, the front office and coaching has been bad, but that doesn’t absolve his role as team and franchise leader. What a miserable year

Unpopular take but the Hornets should sell high on LaMelo this summer. You can’t build a good defense with him, Kon, and Miller. And his contract is horrific even if you get good LaMelo.
Another thing: how does he average 2 FTs a game? He’s 7th in the league in usage rate!
