@xlab_os I agree, but you're a Go developer. whatever you say unc you have no taste whatsoever

Zig is not a memory safe language and does nothing to protect the runtime from mistakes with memory.
I don't get the trend to make another "sexy" language out of it just to rewrite all existing software. Yes it is fast, but it also crashes fast.
Bun crashes, Ghostty crashes, I don't want to know the name of next big thing that is written in Zig and also crashes.
In 2026 many segfaults or memory corruption errors can be weaponized to exploit systems. If you take slow but safe software and rewrite it into Zig you are actually working backwards.
LLMs are also terrible at Zig because there isn't much code base and documented mistakes to learn from. One of my few exploration attempts was about making a CLI app with a buffer and mouse handling. It was one-shotted okay, but upon launch it just started to print raw bytes from my RAM onto the buffer. Basically exposing adjacent apps state.
Zig might sound cool for people coming from the web world (where everything runs in the most safe sandbox imaginable) or even non-CS-backgrounded people who just pick a language that is popular on X, but this is a really bad bad option for anything with >0 users.
Before LLMs - maybe, but not in today world. If you want raw power - write in C, ASM, use ASan.
Also, Rust is not perfect but at least it offers something.

@charliegreenman @awesomekling You're lucky you didn't see Cnile part of xitter

@awesomekling i've never seen a single anti-rust person

@leothecurious @PPlays420 @cloneofsimo May I ask you, do you think that “AGI architecture” will consist of any differential methods at all?
English

broad distraction with methods that show superficial or unscalable progress before eventually pivoting back and scaling up more principled methods from scratch (in a way that most progress on the unscalable methods doesn't transfer). happened alot throughout this field's history. people love to optimize deadends till the very end.
English

@PLTenjoyer That helps a lot, but if you know where you want to push them and correct mistakes you can get them into good states, also saying look for latest research is helpful to get them out of their internal knowledge which is where a lot of the superficial stuff is

Naming their next model after Cthulhu makes it hard to take Anthropic seriously as the good guys. It's fun at any other software company, not one that actually is flirting with extinction.

“ A draft blog post that was available in an unsecured and publicly-searchable data store prior to Thursday evening said the new model is called “Claude Mythos” and that the company believes it poses unprecedented cybersecurity risks. “

@eigenron I still can’t decide what’s worse, wordcel ML tard or math for the sake of math mumbo jumbo ML tard

The G in AGI stands for "general".
General intelligence does not mean that you have been specifically trained for a large range of tasks. It means you can approach any NEW task and figure it out, just like humans do.
If regular people can do it on their own (no guidance, no tools), why should AGI require special handholding and handcrafted instructions? If it's AGI, why would there still be a human in the loop, using their own human intelligence to guide the model on every new task?

this is pretty much worst case performance no harness at all and very simplistic prompt

In the coming days, employers will see a stream of resumes of once-in-a-lifetime quality folks. An important thing to understand is that Epic never lowered our hiring standards as we grew, and the layoff wasn't a performance-based "rightsizing" as companies call it nowadays. It's a sound bet that anyone with Epic Games on their resume is in the top few percent of their discipline.

Sad news for Epic Games. Hope the efforts to turn things around can work. gamesbeat.com/epic-games-lay…

@blingdivinity @leothecurious Literally this, at this rate of “math insights” neuroscientists will get there first lmao
English

@leothecurious am i too schizo in thinking that most ai researchers are severely oneshot by math slop? seems like if a good idea doesn't easily fall out of manipulating an existing equation they wont pursue it. too many exploiters not enough explorers
English

no one is working on this(?)

semantically-aware optimization: > make param updates dependent on the subjective importance of the params > reduce catastrophic forgetting via selective knowledge forgetting based on relevant heuristics > plasticity heavily dependent on both epistemic and aleatoric uncertainty

@misterclayt0n @HSVSphere If you don't know the nix lang, yeah, it's a real pain in the ass. But actually once you know nix lang and using LLM for any esoteric build system knowledge, it's a pretty pleasant experience

@HSVSphere dude for me to use nixOS again I need to have a fucking seizure first this shit is beyond hate

@___4o____ @NateBootyBooty Not the quality, but def the quantity. And it is possible to use coding assistants in a very granular level, where basically you are able to type code through AI faster then before, while retaining ownership.
