I first met Isabella Gamk during a solo @POOF_Toronto protest that blocked one lane of traffic on Yonge Street. We have since had countless interactions, with Isabella taking every opportunity to advocate for meaningful rather than incremental change to ODSP. It was bittersweet to attend Isabella’s Exit Stage Left celebration. Isabella has always made me feel seen and understood, even when refusing to denounce my work was an unpopular stance to take. It is unspeakably depressing that our country makes MAID more accessible than social supports that could alleviate suffering for disabled people. Isabella’s send-off was a room full of love and laughter. Apparently not everyone could make it, but you’d never guess because there were already too many people to fit inside!
