We live in an age of marvels. Near-instant hot water in several rooms in my house. Refrigeration. Temperature control at the touch of a dial. Instant world-wide communication.
Human Progress@HumanProgress

Home appliances generally start as luxury items, but they don’t stay that way for long. The first practical refrigerator, introduced in 1927, only reached the wealthiest Americans. By 1944, there was a refrigerator in 85% of US households. humanprogress.org/appliances-con…

Wow, I didn't realize that Prime Minister Takaichi in Japan literally won the biggest landslide in Japanese history the other day. Seems like a leader we're all going to have to get to know.

I like Chomsky because not only was he an idiot when he ventured outside his core competency, but when he stuck to his core competency he also got everything wrong (and by "like" I mean "do not like")
Everything Price Sufferer (but especially eggs)@agraybee

Like most mid-century linguists Chomsky thought words like "uh" and "like" were fillers to collect your thoughts. When Bill Labov pointed out that people are using them in texts and emails, and thus must have some semantic value, he said "that doesn't interest me."

We don't talk enough about religious appropriation. But it's definitely a thing. Unlike so called "cultural appropriation," the door to Christianity is wide open. Doesn't matter where you're coming from or how long you've been here. Like Olive Garden, when you're here you're family. But for those who are just cosplaying - whether they know it or not - my faith is not your costume.

@PeterMeijer Going one step up in the Zojirushi lineup is just as much of a game changer too. It is pricey, so wait until some big sale, but the quality difference is incredible.

Covid lockdowns only eroded basic constitutional rights, centralized power in the executive branch, wrecked our political system with conspiracism and violence, unleashed a wave of riots that ravaged major American cities, threw our entire economy into 4+ years of inflationary turmoil and runaway debt, saddled an entire generation of schoolkids with mental health and development issues, destroyed public trust in science, triggered an unprecedented wave of fentanyl and other substance abuse crises, and ended up doing exactly nothing to slow or stop the disease that it promised to mitigate. But hey. It was a "once and a century pandemic" so we had to do it, or something.
JuicyJuuce@JuicyJuuce

@TeaGeeGeePea @IcedMeatba3620 @PhilWMagness i like phil but it’s weird to still be upset years later about staying home for a few months during a once in a century pandemic
