That'll make weeding a lot easier. Having peeked in the top of some of the tubes it looks like the drought has definitely taken its toll. These were planted winter 23/4, when it was really wet (3x normal) and have now been through the '25 dry spring/summer (<half normal).

When we were laying out the first years planting we decided to mix blocks of 9 and 16 to break up lines. Never stopped to think of the impact on trying to mow between rows. A beautiful day to be out tractoring, cutting the grass to make access easier for weeding.

One of life's big questions; if a single pack of Jaffa Cakes has 10, and a double pack has 20, why does a triple pack have 33? (And, yes, there should be 12 in a single pack).

Just, had a slightly surreal online chat about a car for sale where I've been told more than once that they can "guarantee there is at least one key with the car", and I'm trying hard not to type "well I wouldn't expect to have to hot wire it..."

Trying to have a peaceful cup of tea and there's currently a right racket in the garden.

Be warned; @BootsUK system allowed an appointment to be booked at Huntingdon for the MenB vaccine, our bank was charged then it errored out - phoning the relevant branch revealed they don't have any vaccine in stock. We were told to "phone the bank". Looks like it's not just us:

Our son is at Uni in Canterbury (at CCCU) so the meningitis outbreak is very concerning, not helped by BBC News doing their normal blathering without all the information. UKHSA have not announced the strain involved so discussion of vaccines is pointless.

Closing Sidgewick Avenue will mean Cambridge Hop-on Hop-off tourist bus will have to re-register with the Traffic Commissioner. Mayor @paulbristow79 to @GCSP_Planning

‘Drop down bollards’ to limit traffic proposed by @GreaterCambs on Sidgewick Avenue in Cambridge. Says pavement has been badly damaged by London Plane trees “and have become almost impassable in some locations” forcing people into the road.

@CotonBuzz We have trail cameras up in the woodland so know exactly what 'the public' do. Free running dogs is my personal hate, that and litter of course.

@RedSpudd One year we had picnickers making flower wreaths from bee orchids and other wildflowers, threaded onto twigs snapped from newly planted heritage fruit trees, so we’re perhaps a little sensitive about people going for a uninvited stroll.

@CotonBuzz @greenarteries If they expect their mass trespass to be 'illegal' then they must be planning more than a stroll and a picnic, otherwise it's a civil matter.

@greenarteries R2R “planning a series of mass trespasses in woods across England during March & April. At these events, dozens of people gather to go on an illegal walk & picnic on land usually off-limits to the public.” Given its nesting season there maybe be a reason for it being off-limits.

@PJTheEconomist @shivmalik 63% agriculture? Isn't that almost exactly the same as the food self sufficiency rate? 20% isn't "Moors and Lakes", that numbers also includes Forestry. England woodland cover has improved a bit in the last 100 years so we're back now at pre-mediaeval rates!

Really localised rain early this morning. We got 5.2mm in Sutton, yet 4 miles up the road in Witchford they received 0.2mm. Could definitely do with a bit more.

Still a valued customer of E.On Next, so much so they can't even remember my name. On the plus side last year's ludicrously sunny weather means we generated 3,000 units in the past 12 months from our PV setup that is coming up on 14 years old.

@markrwilliamson Yes, we could have 'introduced' species that have severely impacted our native flaura and fauna; grey squirrel, signal crayfish, muntjac, parakeets, mink... It's a long list.
