Together with RDW, we have officially completed the final vehicle testing phase for Full Self-Driving (Supervised) and have submitted all documentation required for the UN R-171 approval + Article 39 exemptions. The RDW team is now reviewing the documentation and test results package internally. They have communicated the expected approval for Netherlands date of 4/10, shifting from 3/20 previously and we look forward to successful completion of this cooperation. Following the Netherlands’ approval, European countries will be able to recognize this approval nationally. We are anticipating a possible EU-wide approval during the summer. Over the past 18 months, this approval has involved a series of intense documentation, development, testing, research & audits. Including but certainly not limited to: – 1,600,000+ km of FSD (Supervised) testing on EU roads – 13,000+ customer sales ride-alongs – 4,500+ track test scenario executions – Thousands of pages of written documentation for 400+ compliance requirements – Dozens of research studies into safety performance/results We're extremely proud of the work conducted with the RDW team up until this point. We very much look forward to the approval in April, and sharing FSD (Supervised) with our patient EU customers!

🚨 Possible bad news for #FSD in the Netherlands. Rumors are circulating that the possible RDW approval date has shifted from March 20 to April 10.
Sources (incl. someone who spoke to a Tesla NL manager) say tests are going very well and RDW is satisfied overall, but they provided Tesla with a list of improvement points, and gave until April 10 to address them. Others heard directly from RDW that March 20 isn’t feasible.
Important; This is NOT official yet. Let’s wait and see what happens on March 20 first. But we should prepare for the possibility of a few more weeks delay.
Also, FSD ride-alongs in other countries have been extended to April 30, likely connected to this timeline.
Fingers crossed for good news soon. 🤞🇳🇱🇪🇺🧿

By 2030, avoided daily consumption could more than double to 5.25 million barrels. “Electric vehicles are increasingly cost-competitive with gasoline cars. 🚨 Just one week left until a potential game changer for Tesla in Europe. 🇳🇱🇪🇺
Elon Musk said at the end of February during the Giga Berlin event that the Dutch RDW could give the green light for FSD (Supervised) as early as March 20, 2026. That’s next Friday. The first concrete date ever publicly mentioned for Europe.
Why the Netherlands first?
- RDW is the key authority (via Article 39 EU regulation + UN-R-171 compliance).
- Tesla has already done massive testing. >1 million km across 17 EU countries, with recent demos in Dutch cities handling heavy traffic, cyclists, trams, and roundabouts.
- The software (think v2026.2.9+ builds) already shows border warnings and shadow mode hints. They’re ready to push OTA the moment approval lands.
Expected rollout timeline if it happens:
- Netherlands: Immediately after approval (possibly late March / early April) OTA to HW4 vehicles with FSD package. HW3 will likely get a lighter version later.
- Other EU countries: Through mutual recognition (other countries accept the Dutch approval), it can cascade quickly. Belgium, Germany, Scandinavia, etc. within weeks/months. Full EU-wide coverage possibly in Q2/Q3 2026, depending on how smoothly other authorities cooperate.
- What you’ll get: Hands-off on highways, system initiated lane changes, much improved urban navigation, roundabouts & cyclists that FSD already handles well in demos. Still supervised (you must stay attentive), but way smarter than EAP / Navigate on Autopilot.
Key factors that will decide if it really happens:
1. RDW demo & safety scores. Tesla must prove it’s safer than human drivers in EU-specific scenarios.
2. Political will. EU rules are strict, but recent UNECE Phase 3 (DCAS) changes are a huge help for AI-driven systems.
3. No major delays. Data from US/Canada and recent EU ride-alongs look strong, but bureaucracy can still surprise us.
If March 20 actually happens, this is the moment Europe finally gets FSD. And the rest of the world sees how far Tesla’s AI has really come. 🤞🏻🔥🧿
