You have a rather confused picture of history. The SS was an official organization of Nazi Germany and was declared criminal by the Nuremberg Tribunal, which settled this issue once and for all. The UPA was a Ukrainian insurgent movement. Neither the UPA nor Stepan Bandera were ever officially designated as Nazi by any international court or tribunal, including Nuremberg. The same applies to the Home Army (Armia Krajowa), which was also never designated as Nazi. Everything else is a matter of personal interpretation and speculation, not established historical or legal fact.

No one denies that people were killed and buried in mass graves. The debate is about numbers, context and evidence.
In March 2026, a joint Ukrainian-Polish archaeological team excavated more than 1,000 square meters in the village of Uhly, where Polish researchers believed a mass grave of Polish victims existed, but no such burial site was found. This is exactly why historians and archaeologists should rely on evidence rather than assumptions and emotions.
And while we're asking difficult questions: where can I read official Polish apologies for Ukrainian civilians killed by Polish formations, including the Home Army? And why were acts of vandalism against Ukrainian memorials in Poland tolerated for years?
One more thing: why do so many participants in these discussions immediately resort to insults and profanity? Is this really the level of public discourse expected from a society that has been part of the European Union for more than twenty years?

The idea about "the replacement" is not my own, it's Poles' idea.
The Polish politicians are using historical narratives for covering pragmatic stuff. But the ordinary people are consuming it.
Basically, it's been clear for a couple of years that Poland will be the main country that will be against our EU membership. But they can't say it clearly, it doesn't look well, though they started to do it.
It's the same thing as with the Jews: it's okay when they are weak, then everybody feels for them, as soon as they become strong , nobody likes it. ;) (it's a Ukrainian Jew's thought :) too )

1. Poland has drowned into populism and resentment and chose a populist as President, who ran on anti-Ukrainian campaign actually.
Ukrainians are replacing the traditional place of the the Jews in Poland, to say it clearer. Hence there are very few Jews, they need to find them (btw, though I wouldn't call modern Poland aticemitic, the attitude to the Jews is not very good - and it's weird hence they simply don't have them. So we are new ones. )
2. Poland and Ukraine have different historical narratives. Poland also has it with Lithuania and Belarus, but Belarus is temporarily in coma, and they were joining the EU together with Lithuania and settled it then, the Poles had to lower their ambitions to control it, though the ambitions weren't that big. They are also really OBSESSED with Germans, it seems that you've missed another invasion if you read the headings in the press.
Ukraine is seen as a lower-grade country , which they want to control.
3. The real issue is this is used for covering really economic and political matters. A part of the Polish politicians, some are on Russian payroll, some are just nationalist populists, like Nawrocki, don't want to have a competitor like Ukraine. It started from the grains story 2 years ago, and now they are openly saying it.
Nawrocki needed the votes of the far right voters (this antisemitic and chauvinistic part) and signed the agreement that he would stop Ukraine from joining the EU.
4. And finally, there is a conflict between the PM and president, they belong to different forces.
The last person who should sign this decision is Tusk, who doesn't want to do it, which is why this is another reason to pull the swing and make a domestic show.

First of all, a huge thank you to you. People like you will always have Ukraine's gratitude and respect.
And to the Poles posting below, I have two questions.
I'm Ukrainian and I'm cooking this dish right now. I've been making it for years simply because I like it. Who among you can name it without Google or AI?
Based on this fact alone, how much of a "Banderite" and a "Nazi" am I in your understanding?

English

Calling Zelensky or Ukraine "Nazi" does not make it a fact. Neither the UPA, nor Stepan Bandera, nor the OUN were ever officially designated as Nazi organizations by any international court or tribunal, including Nuremberg. The term "genocide" is likewise the official position of the Polish state, not a finding of an international court. And just as a reminder: Ukraine was represented as a separate founding member of the United Nations in 1945, unlike Poland, which joined later.
English

My w Polsce brzydzimy się nazizmem
Polski

W czyim interesie to wszystko zrobił?
Polski

"Genocide" is the official position of the Polish state, but it has never been established by any international court or tribunal. Likewise, the figures of approximately 100,000 Polish victims and 10,000-20,000 Ukrainian victims killed by Polish forces are historical estimates and demographic reconstructions rather than fully documented counts of identified victims. But unlike Poland, Ukraine has never tried to tell Poles what they must call these events or whom they may honour in their own country.
English

@SavchenkoReview The UPA genocide - the Volhynia Massacre refers to the systematic ethnic cleansing and mass extermination of approximately 100,000 ethnic Poles. It was committed between 1943 -1945 by the Organization of Ukrainian Nationalists (OUN-B) and the Ukrainian Insurgent Army (UPA)
English

@MaciejRutk73995 @sumlenny Of course, an expert. Let's do a little test: I'm Ukrainian and I'm cooking this dish right now. Can you guess what it is without Google or AI? And yet you reduce us to "Banderites."

Head of Ukraine's Presidential Office Budanov also declined Poland's Golden Officer's Cross of the Order "For Merit," and Ukraine's ambassador to Poland Bodnar declined his own award, the Knight's Cross of the Order "For Merit to the Republic of Poland."

Ukraine's Foreign Minister Sybiga has declined Poland's Commander's Cross with Star of the Order "For Merit to Poland" in response to what he calls "reckless actions."

Since the 1997 Joint Declaration on Understanding and Unity, Ukrainian presidents and officials have repeatedly sought reconciliation with Poland: President Kuchma in 2003, President Yushchenko's reconciliation initiatives in 2006, President Poroshenko's "We forgive and ask for forgiveness" in 2014 and again in 2016, the 2016 open letter signed by former presidents Kravchuk and Yushchenko asking forgiveness for crimes and wrongs committed, and Speaker Stefanchuk's expression of sympathy and call for reconciliation in 2023. How many more times does Ukraine have to express regret, seek forgiveness and pursue reconciliation before it is considered enough? And Ukraine remains profoundly grateful to the Polish people for both their support at the beginning of the full-scale war and the support they continue to provide today.

@wterapii @K_Smiszek That's a poor plan. Poland is one of the biggest net recipients of EU funding, so it's not the only country with leverage in this relationship.

#Siódemka
Jolanta Saacewicz:
👇
Kiedyś, gdy przypinano je do piersi rodziców, były ważne i coś znaczyły.
* 🇫🇷 francuska Legia Honorowa – Wielki Krzyż (2023),
* 🇨🇿 czeski Order Białego Lwa z Łańcuchem (2022),
* 🇱🇹 litewski Order Witolda Wielkiego ze Złotym Łańcuchem (2022),
* 🇫🇮 fiński Order Białej Róży Finlandii z Łańcuchem,
* 🇵🇹 portugalski Order Wolności – Wielki Łańcuch (2023),
* 🇱🇻 łotewski Order Viestursa I klasy (2022),
* 🇪🇪 estoński Order Herbu Tallinna (2022),
* 🇳🇱 holenderska nagroda International Four Freedoms Award,
* 🇺🇸 amerykańska Golden Plate Award.
Dziś wiadomo jedno: polski medal Polacy zabrali prezydentowi Ukrainy w środku wojny, w której Ukraińcy walczą o swoje istnienie i swoim życiem bronią m.in.

Probably no need to spell out the obvious: strikes on Belarus, on its oil refineries serving the Russian Armed Forces, or on equipment installed by Russians or servicing them, etc. — this isn't some completely far-fetched scenario.
I also wouldn't rule out the possibility of various border-related events, in the course of which border territories get occupied with the aim of creating a buffer zone, pressuring Minsk, or tying down certain forces — also a quite realistic scenario at some point in the future.
Lukashenko understands all of this perfectly well; over these decades he's demonstrated a high level of political intuition and instinct.
At the same time, Belarus's population is only 9 million, where large masses have seen their government in a grave — everyone remembers very well the genuinely massive protests of 2020–21, which were suppressed and crushed by force, not dissipated on their own.
With that kind of asset, you can't fight much or for long — at most a defensive posture, trying to keep the army loyal and under control.
By providing its territory in 2022 for strikes and for the Russian army's hook-shaped advance on Kyiv, Belarus became, even formally, under international law, a co-participant state in the aggression.
The fact that this wasn't talked about afterward isn't because it was forgotten, but because there were clearly more pressing matters than Minsk and what it was up to there.
But if things start going badly for Russia (which the Kremlin itself is bringing closer by continuing to grind down its army, economy, and society) and it has to turn inward to its own affairs, Belarus could find itself largely without Moscow's protection.
Lukashenko understands this perfectly well too.
So it's sensible on his part — given Belarus's geographic position, its population, its vulnerabilities, and the vulnerabilities of his ruling family — to start a slow dialogue, and not just dialogue, but groundwork for the future: what he can offer, how to make up for 2022, and so on.
I wouldn't even be surprised if such a dialogue is already happening behind the scenes, at the level of senior officials and diplomats.
Belarus doesn't need a war, so it would be wise for Minsk to behave and, slowly, leisurely, in small steps, begin drifting away from Moscow as far as possible.
Look at Armenia — it figured this out (and not only Armenia); now it's Belarus's turn.
The future of this whole post-Soviet space will belong to Moscow only in the case of its victory (not a frozen conflict, but an actual victory) — in every other scenario, no, but instead many different new configurations and reshufflings open up.

Poland is conspicuously absent from European countries with whom Ukraine has defence cooperation agreements. These include the UK, Germany, 4 Nordics countries, and 3 Baltic countries, plus Canada. Ukraine has also signed defence agreements with 5 Gulf and Middle Eastern states. These countries are bringing (with Ukraine’s assistance) their militaries into the 21st century.
Unlike these countries, Poland is not cooperating with Ukraine on a new European air defence system to replace the US patriot. Poland's MAGA President Nawrocki still has faith in Trump.
Poland is also conspicuously absent from countries providing military aid to Ukraine (as seen at the just concluded G7 meeting). Poland (unlike Germany) is demanding payment from the EU for the transfer of (primarily Soviet) military equipment to Ukraine.
Poland only shot down 4 out of 19 Russian drones during Russia’s last attack. I wish Poland good luck in combatting Russian aggression without US commitment to NATO and Ukrainian training, military technology and combat experience.

Axios:
