@OTOY Octane 2026 also provides access to Gaussian Splat AOVs These AOVs break out the splat asset directly from your 3D scene - which can be great for compositing, but also just look really cool solo'd independent from the shading and background while still retaining the tint recoloring.

This might look like it took hours/days of work, but I made this in under 1 hour using some of my pre-rendered FUI assets.

OctaneRender 2027.1 Alpha is out, and what’s exciting here is what these kinds of improvements actually unlock for artists. More UV flexibility means more control in how you texture and build. A faster real-time preview means better decisions while lighting, shading, and iterating. Less compromise, more creating - always great to see @OTOY continuing to push tools forward for artists.

Hi everyone! I am so happy to have collaborated with @OTOY after working with Blender + Octane for 6 years Here is a tutorial for anyone who wants to start making 3D Art! ☺️🖤
OTOY@OTOY

Abel @FIEND___  just created a new intro to Octane for Blender The tutorial covers core fundamentals including lighting, materials, real-time viewport rendering, and an overview of new features in Octane 2026. If you're getting into Blender or want better renders - this is a great place to start. youtu.be/OdK7uVmjijU

I’m sure like anything it will be a settings toggle if you prefer not to have it you can disable it.. or revert to a diff version that’s performant only. We’re also seeing this enhancement applied to prebuilt games that didn’t have this tech in mind when developing. Moving forward with active enhancement as the rule when engineering the game and assets, we’ll surely see that maximize the effects appropriately to pull out the details wanted rather than applied later as a surprise.. I’d like to think at least 😆

@SpenserFX @DinoMFX Yeah true we don’t know the level of consistency yet, though I’m guessing the tighter the shot on the character the better it will look because the AI will have more data to work with.

Everyone is so mad about this but it looks like an upgrade to my eyes. Video game characters look like ass on the whole and this does improve the photorealism, full stop. This wasn’t meant to be a stylistic game. It was trying to be photoreal and ran into limitations. To me this is actual utility for AI, similar to what Magnific can do to add micro details and that extra layer of polish to low res textures. Yes, the animation is still janky and to a degree it’s like putting makeup on a pig, but these are the steps to visual improvement and I’m sure that’s next. As someone who has worked in the 3D industry for over 15 years, I also feel that the tools have plateaued, and what I have access to today isn’t significantly better than what it was a decade ago. This feels like the jump from CPU rendering to GPU rendering and all I’m seeing is hate, why??

They’re really trying to gaslight you into not believing your own eyes and telling you this is completely different geometry and a different person that looks worse Imagine being mad at this 😂 DLSS 5

I saw that too with the Indiana Jones game, at that point it’s no longer his likeness and just a push for a higher fidelity random character - I wonder what the level of consistency throughout the game, it would be rather confusing to jump into different scenes with the characters swapping appearances haphazardly.

@DavidAriew The FIFA game example was showing the issue really well. Without DLSS I could recognize the player immediately, with the face filter it wasn't him anymore, it was just a random face. Also trying to make visuals super realistic but keeping the same animations makes it uncanny.

Apple’s new LiTo model showcases a new method of converting 2D images to highly realistic 3D (Gaussian splat) objects More interestingly: it aims to accurately mimic the complex lighting, materials, and reflections shown in the original photo! They’re working to open source it

160 Thousand Gaussian Splat trees rendering in @OTOY Octane 2026 while being fully relit with a daylight and all rendering using just over 3gb of vram. This tree as a polygon object used nearly 3gb of vram for 1 instance, but 160 THOUSAND!!!
