@OTOY Octane 2026 also provides access to Gaussian Splat AOVs These AOVs break out the splat asset directly from your 3D scene - which can be great for compositing, but also just look really cool solo'd independent from the shading and background while still retaining the tint recoloring.

@DinoMFX @DavidAriew 💯tools and plugins that aren’t available for my DCC/version I’ve been building and using for months - I’m genuinely mind blown by how accessible it’s become to develop your own tools and how rapidly you can iterate and develop them

Perhaps a hot take but I'd say at least half of plugins being released in the future for 3D software will be partly or fully vibe-coded. Especially if they happen to come from 3D artists. Being able to finally make the tools you always wanted is hella addicting.

I see a lot of people struggling to wrap their heads around UVs. I think I know how to visualize it.

Gaussian splatting was everywhere at @NABShow. Here's a crazy 4DGS capture of me from @4DV_ai right on the show floor.

Absolutely - super helpful as tool to learn but also unlock new abilities - I can't and probably would never learn python and OSL but now I can whip both together in minutes for amazing workflows and shaders and camera distortions. The faster and smarter these tools become - everyone is just waking up and asking for new features they want to flex with for the day and experiment with. I think that's cool, but it's also wild to think how accessible that is compared to just 2-3 years ago.

@SpenserFX Yeah I dunno I feel like for learning the software, it could be very helpful. Writing custom shaders, plugins, geo node setups...but I don't think it replaces actually learning how the app works fundamentally.

What are your thoughts on Ai and MCPs inside tools and software - do you think it will make the tools better or will it create less of a connection with the actual software and user? I can see it both ways but depends on the entry point - for users who have used the tools for years you may find extreme functionality and efficiencies - while beginners and new adopters may rely too much on the Ai component and forgo the fundamental leanings and growing pains.
