Given the situation, her skill set (and/or relationships) are apparently so specific as to have virtually no value outside government sponsored international development.

I didn’t like USAID. But watching people gleefully mock a woman for having to start over at ~60 is bleak. You can disagree with someone’s politics without losing basic empathy. The internet has broken a lot of brains.

@AlecMacGillis I certainly wouldn't celebrate someone's misfortune, but the fact that the best job she can now find pays $19/hr makes you wonder what skills she has or how narrowly focused those skills must be that nobody is willing to pay for them.

20yrs ago today, Duke's Group of 88 released its statement on the lacrosse case. The signatories thanked protesters (who had among other things urged the lacrosse captains' castration) "for not waiting and for making yourself heard."

@breese34 Perhaps instead of the players and coaches being punished, the school should've had it's lacrosse program shut down for at least a year and the players given complete freedom to transfer with no loss of eligibility.
