A lot of people are focused on when Tesla will catch up to Waymo, which is fair given that Waymo has thousands of driverless cars and Tesla only has a handful. But not enough people ask “When will Waymo catch up to Tesla?” 1. When will Waymo be able to take me on a coast to coast drive? 2. When will I be able to buy a Waymo? 3. When will Waymo cross 8 million cars that can run their software? 4. When will Waymo be able to work with no geofencing restrictions? My contrarian take is that it’s a lot easier for Tesla to catch Waymo than for Waymo to catch up to Tesla.

The media is running a story today about how a Cybertruck “allegedly” crashed on a Texas highway. Spoiler alert, the crash happened while the human driver was in control. The law firm, which is seeking $1 million, says that last summer Justine Saint Amour was driving her Cybertruck with Autopilot engaged. There’s just one problem — Autopilot is a legacy lane keeping system that never shipped on Cybertruck. The driver then admits that before the crash they disengaged the system and started driving manually. Indeed, the video shows the truck starting to turn before the driver disengaged and drove into the wall. Tesla hasn’t officially responded to the lawsuit yet, but available telemetry indicates the driver probably wasn’t paying attention, got startled, and crashed. There doesn’t seem to be any attempt to steer back towards the on-ramp in the video, rather you see the trajectory change from turning with the ramp to driving straight into it. When you crash your car, people tend to put blame on anyone but themselves. A high profile company like Tesla, with a CEO who is the wealthiest man on Earth? Yeah, they kinds of BS lawsuits happen often. Let’s wait for more data and discovery to take place, but based on the evidence i’m seeing so far that doesn’t look like something FSD — even an older V13 — would do.

Autopilot (FSD?) was turned off 4 seconds before the crash, which lines up pretty much exactly with the start of the shared video clip... Sounds like the driver was confused, as we've seen in "I swear I was pressing the brake!" Lawsuits from people against many auto makers

Tesla NEEDS to do a free version of FSD Delivering cars with just TACC is a fucked up situation Please Tesla, this will supercharge adoption. It’s not for me, i’m a paid FSD user. But we need to hook the users who don’t want to or can’t pay.

@DirtyTesLa I went on a drive a few days ago and the FSD was so perfect my jaw dropped and I don't know why it was so good.

This has been bothering me. For YEARS owners have pointed out the need for camera washers due to our real world driving. But Tesla didn't listen. They waited until they put 10 supervised robotaxis out and then went "ah shit these cameras are getting dirty." Why

My whole career I've been meeting devs with strong edgy negative opinions about tools they've been using. I always thought they had some innate insight and saw through something. Today, I'm of the opinion they just couldn't utilize tools to their max including their weak spots.

Hey there, Tesla fan on X! Yes, I am still confused - and I have every right to be confused. A screenshot of a text message from a random Tesla worker is HARDLY convincing enough for me to drop $11,000.00 - and it 100% is not legally binding in any way whatsoever. The only thing that is legally binding is the purchase contract when you actually buy FSD (SUPERVISED). And on that contract it does not say the word unsupervised once. It could not be more clear that you’re buying FSD (SUPERVISED). Was it promised for folks back in the day that they’d get FSD unsupervised? Perhaps - I don’t know I wasn’t part of the Tesla community back then. For THOSE people I genuinely do not know what the future looks like for you and your cars. What I am talking about today is people who are looking to buy FSD and have recently bought FSD. If this is such a clear cut thing where FSD supervised will become FSD unsupervised at no additional cost - then Tesla needs to announce that. I do not think that’s unfair to ask for. Vague posts from Elon referencing HW3 folks does not count. I am a huge advocate of FSD and fan of Tesla - but I really hate how this is all being handled. It’s causing the community to argue amongst one another when the truth is none of us have any idea what the future of FSD is going to look like.

@DevinOlsenn @Tesla_Borg The more I see this stuff the more I think I'm gonna wait for FSD4 or FSD5, if the FSD hardware itself isn't the problem as far as the chips themselves, then the cameras or camera cleaning solutions might need to be created to make it a long term viable solution.

I am looking forward to a tear down on these new "HW4.5" computers to see what is new. It looks like the cars that have it right now also include the new front camera housing to prevent off gassing and the new 16" screens.

@wholemars The tech in Tesla is great as far as FSD capabilities... but if they are unwilling or unable to make strides in material quality, construction, and just general appeal as far as the car itself goes.. then asking people to pay extra for something that should be included sucks.
