@TTExulansic @Kassandra_Zerb Why would they be ova? And they aren't "half formed sperm", they are stem and progenitor cells of the testes that give rise to spermatozoa through the process of spermatogenesis. But spermatogenesis doesn't always take place.

Humans look exactly alike, until 6 - 7 weeks, when differentiation takes place. Differentiation did not proceed in Swyer's, the gonads failed to form either testes or ovaries. So what's left are streaks.

@TransInterphobe @TTExulansic @IHaveOTDSD I don't see how that's possible. XY cells cannot form actual ovarian tissue with oocytes. In the absence of XX chimerism, all XY cells can do is form some stroma. Can you show me a case of XY ovotestis?

@TTExulansic @Kassandra_Zerb No I'm not. I responded to both of your RELATED sources. Perhaps this would help, but if you don't understand, maybe Talia or her sister could kindly simplify it for you. This explains the mechanism that allows spermatogenesis to take place in a testis, but not an ovotestis.

@Kassandra_Zerb @TTExulansic @IHaveOTDSD There are XY people with an ovotestis, just as there are XX ones, and mosaics, a couple chimeras. But none have produced sperm. While there are several documented cases where ova has been produced, and females with OTDSD have even been pregnant.

@TTExulansic @Kassandra_Zerb @IHaveOTDSD She's desperately trying to find something that says one can get sperm from an ovostestes, though the cases cited, involved TESA or TESE from a testis. Even the testis produces very little. Which is why assisted fertility was needed. x.com/TransInterphobโ€ฆ

@Kassandra_Zerb @TTExulansic No one claimed that sperm production was required. The question asked and answered, was the development resulting in sperm. That can only be testes. You won't get sperm from an ovary, not even an ovotestis (So far, only ova has been found), nor from a dysgenic streak gonad.

@TTExulansic @Kassandra_Zerb Did you actually READ your source? The man has a testis, and what was described as a non functioning atophic testis, a type of streak gonad, with a loss of germ cells. They used TESA to aspirate sperm from his ๐˜๐—ฒ๐˜€๐˜๐—ถ๐˜€, not from an ovotestis, which he was not found to have.

@TransInterphobe @TTExulansic Ability to produce sperm is not required to be male. Sterile males are males, Swyer's among them. As you point out, their potential gamete is sperm, but fertility is thwarted by testes failure.

This is Jeanne Nollman. She was born in the 1970s in New York. Her story is very typical for women with her condition: when she failed to get her period, her parents took her to the doctor. During that period of time, doctors were not always as honest as they should have been...
