Been thinking about this one constantly: my favorite Brautigan I don't own because it's rare and haven't reread because it's painful. He is less whimsical in this pseudoautobiographical novel about injuring his friend as a child, revealing the deluge of guilt and sorrow he teased in Dreaming of Babylon, Loading Mercury with a Pitchfork, and Watermelon Sugar. You also see shades of agoraphobia like in The Abortion. I wish I could read it without crying.

@WTSchultz hard to explain but this is something straight women say when they want to signal they are “one of the boys” and enjoy closer bonds with men than other women do…usually said with a lot of pride

3 groups of people to avoid: a) people my age who are obsessed with anti-aging, always talk about Botox and not wanting to age. Don’t want to hear it b) women who say male friends are “like brothers to them” .. 100% female misogynist c) pet dog as personality

Tr*mp doesn't have fancy dementia, he has what the first DSM called an inadequate personality disorder characterized by ineptness

@davidulin He's very uneven, I feel. My favs are maybe off-kilter: The Stars at Noon, The Largesse of the Sea Maiden, The Name of the World, and ofc Jesus' Son. Did not love Angels. Sort of liked Already Dead. Haven't read Tree of Smoke yet...
