The release of #GhostBSD 26.1 with #XLibre is approaching. Together, we fixed a bug in the X configuration. Now we're looking for testers of the latest ISO ci.ghostbsd.org/jenkins/job/st… in VMware, KVM, and bhyve. Please report back at forums.ghostbsd.org/d/796-ghostbsd…. x.com/ghostbsdprojec…

More fixes and improvements ci.ghostbsd.org/jenkins/job/st… If there are people who could test in VMWARE, KVM, and Bhyve, that would be nice.

#GNOME 50 is scheduled for Mar 18, completely removing #X11 support. The once widespread DE is now systemd-only and Wayland-only. If you doubt that "GNOME knows best" and like to stay on X11, we have a section "Desktop Environments" on our "Are We XLibre Yet?" page. #desktop-environments" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener">github.com/X11Libre/xserv…

@XLibreDev @abanoubha That's incredible! I don't have beef with Wayland or X11 for that matter. Keep up the good work! From a namespace perspective, particularly for screen sharing is there a way to isolate what van be shared from/to an application? That would be dope.

Preface: >30 years experience with Linux and server administration is my job. Every honest attempt to remain on Wayland has ended up with me reverting to X11. Most recently, I installed CachyOS on a desktop with Nvidia graphics specifically to try it and play ARC Raiders. There was no need to impart my nuance into this system, all it had to do was play. Therefore I let it use Wayland. I was having graphical issues, frequent stutters and the like. I switched to an X11 session and it went away. Therefore I remain on X11. What exactly were the issues? Hard to remember. The last thing I want to do is go through yet another arduous round of debugging when 1) it's my day (and night) job, and 2) I've lived through multiple ages of debugging Linux shit and I am tired and trying to sit down and play Tarkov for Dads. As soon as I saw the slightest indicator that the symptoms and/or error pointed toward Wayland, I switched and it worked out. Friends were waiting on me.

probono is literally that one japanese soldier who kept fighting for 30 years. most people don't even think about x11/wayland coming to linux anymore. shit just works ootb sans some random strange apps like wine
probono@probonopd

Great to see a desktop environment that actively removes #Wayland dependencies. Way to go @SonicDesktop. Let's liberate our systems from all components controlled by XDG/Red Hat that have been holding back open source desktops for decades. github.com/Sonic-DE/sonic…

@XLibreDev @halvawawa I suppose this is more of a wrongly phrased thing from my side. My intention was to mention that newer apps/versions will most likely drop X11 support as the toolkits (i.e Gtk ) are dropping X11 support on future releases.

@XLibreDev I have not looked at this, I'm assuming this works with Xlibre? I will have to take a look at it for sure. And if it works, that'll be huge for me.

@XLibreDev I'd switch over to xlibre but I have multiple refresh rates on different monitors, 60hz, 70hz, 240hz and these desktops don't work with x11 in a way that allows me to use my main monitor at 240hz. So I'm stuck with Wayland. Unless yiu know of an alternative that works.

@halvawawa Wayland is the reason I moved back to Mac OS. It definitely not “just works” it fails at what it it supposed to do on very common use cases. I’m hoping Xlibre gets adopted but most of the apps are dropping X support and thus making my workflow useless in Linux

@XLibreDev I've been using it with Gentoo. Desktop is fine. xorgxrdp won't compile, but it's not enough of a priority for me to try and figure it out. I'll get to it soon enough.

@XLibreDev If i can remember. The application previews are sometimes black, which is rare. And when I was using FL Studio, I get softlocked. I'm not sure if it was because of wine or something else. I should try again sometime. More than that Xlibre works ok but i think i should update idk

@XLibreDev There is XWayland to run X programs on Wayland, but I am not aware there is something that does the reverse. Is there such a thing?

GNOME 2 is already being further developed at mate-desktop.org and its fork github.com/cafe-desktop. It is unclear whether anyone would do the same for later versions of GNOME. The X11 part of KDE Plasma 6 is being further developed at github.com/Sonic-DE. There are also more desktop environments with ongoing X11 support. Please see #desktop-environments" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener">github.com/X11Libre/xserv… and github.com/orgs/X11Libre/…
