Girardi is right that Volpe has been better on defense this year, and both the eye test and metrics says that. People that argue otherwise just formed their opinion and aren't open to not hating everything Volpe does at all times
@YankeesOnly87 Been a Yankee fan for 50 years. After reading the replies, how did Yankee fans become so dumb? They were always considered passionate and baseball smart. These comments are rageful and not based in reality. Volpe has been fine this year. Not the problem at all.
@geegee7630 His defense rated very well in 23 and 24 and he has a 118 wRC+ this year driven by a much better walk rate. Of course he still needs to sustain it over a longer sample
@YankeesOnly87 Not a soul would talk about his defense if he could consistently hit a baseball. Kid has never even come close to a 100 OPS+ (that’s the normalized league average for you charlatans). Defense of mediocre players like him is why this organization has no rings in the last 17 years
@Docbooch I think that's fair in terms of his arm especially but at the end of the day it's about making plays and getting to balls others can't get to is important
@YankeesOnly87 His range has always been there. His accuracy and hands are what is suspect. Sure he can get to balls some people cant but the consistency, accuracy and baseball awareness is and always has been shit.
@YankeesOnly87 The new Volpe has the old Volpe beat, but I am not comparing Volpe to Volpe. I compare him to the other starting shortstops around baseball. The New York Yankees can do better at this very important position.
@billhaley88 I don't think it's clear he is. Neither player is a great player. Volpe is hitting better now and Caballero also makes a lot of mistakes, especially on the bases
@YankeesOnly87 He’s not even the best SS on the team and the eye test tells you that. You know what I also know. This team was better until volpe was on the roster they are force feeding him down our throats. 0-4 the last 4 games with him playing SS. For every decent play he makes a bad one
There's this guy that I used to play with on a men's league team that was a UPS driver and he did one of those random social media street interviews and now he's on TV shows and a brand ambassador for supermarkets and it's the wildest thing
