@k_eagar @nelsonsopinion Plus some people living overseas and relying on postal votes are at the mercy of locally inefficient postal systems both to receive the ballot plus to return it in time.

Tim Wilson leads in Goldstein by only 206 votes, but there are at absolute max only 260 votes left to count. Wilson is now certain of victory.

@kevinbonham @GusGguuss @adamrayon I guess the numbers will show us soon enough but does BTL tend to favour people running within a party but with a high personal recognition? Thinking of Jacqui Lambie in Tas but also Fiona Patten in Vic who has a profile separate from LCP.

@GusGguuss @adamrayon Smaller number of candidates makes BTL voting easier but also both have Hare-Clark in their state/territory elections so voters are used to voting that way. Tas has had high profile candidates running BTL campaigns in 2019 and 2022 but not this year so could be Tas rate drops.

Senate below the line unrolls have started so it's time to start my long thread about people who are not getting votes! (Note that the current BTL votes are extremely incomplete, candidates will get many times more BTLs as count continues than they have now).

@ronInBendigo @thomasjreid My point was that Tu Le has been the preferred local ALP candidate since before Dai Le was considered to have a serious chance (until KK was forced into the mix)

Hmm ... that might be true if the incumbent was not also named Le.

Fowler (NSW) candidate Tu Le appears to be the perfect Labor candidate. Questioned by NACC on matters of corruption before she's even entered the parliament. What a star. youtube.com/watch?v=WNHdTu…

@ronInBendigo @thomasjreid Tu Le has been around for a while - I think she was the local who had to give up ALP preselection to Kristina Keneally in 2022.

@thomasjreid "Le" is the third most common Vietnamese family name. Nguyen is around 40%, Tran and Le around 10% each. But I'm sure it played a role in her selection.

@AussieBloke2020 @AntonyGreenElec From memory there were two questions posed at the 1999 referendum: republic and preamble. Can’t remember whether they were on two papers or one.

Referendum turnout heading for a very respectable 89%. And informality is a low 1%, another success for the one-box ballot paper. Clearly very little confusion with the simple instructions for voting.

@SeamusBlackley There's a sugar cane farm we visited in Far North Queensland which also grows cacao and vanilla with the goal of making all the ingredients for chocolate onsite.

@SeamusBlackley Fascinating - thanks for sharing the process. I used to live near a Cadbury factory in Hobart, Australia and while I had toured it many times I hadn't realised about the fermentation aspect.

@NickEvershed @jimjam_slam Would it be advertising following the passage of the bill through the Senate on 19 June, so capitalising on the referendum's reality being in the news, people's minds etc?

@colourmeamused_ @aishamae The mid-2021 lockdown was split by suburbs as well, I think - slowly rolled out as it became evident the virus had spread.

Does anyone know how many days Sydney was in lockdown in 2020/2021? I have roughly 158 days. That includes the 2021 Delta lockdown of 106 days and 52 days in 2020 (defining this first lockdown as starting March 23 and ending May 15, when cafes could open to 10 people at a time).
