Interested in this. Do you genuinely believe that around 2,000 years ago there was a man who was killed and then rose from the dead, on this earth?

@19Hope60 @SamanthaTaghoy So? I said it’s not integral to the Christian faith (it’s not) and not a holy day (it’s not). I didn’t say it wasn’t celebrated. The OP was making stuff up both in terms of overstating Shrove Tuesday and claiming that the ABC and CofE didn’t mention it on social media (they did)

Today is Shrove Tuesday, one of the holiest days in the Christian calendar… …not that you’d be able to tell from the Church of England and Archbishop of Canterbury’s social media pages.

If Zia Yusuf wants to identify as Shadow Home Secretary he can but he can’t be allowed to compete in political competitions. It’s not fair on Chris Philp the actual biological Shadow Home Sec.

@19Hope60 @SamanthaTaghoy Hi, that’s referring to Samantha’s comment: “It is also The Feast of the Holy Face, a devotion established by Pope Pius XII.” which is a feast only celebrated by the Catholic Church. Incidentally, Shrove Tuesday isn’t in the liturgical calendar of either CofE or Catholic Church.

@CF_Farrow The account posted at 8am, on the first day of lent. Which part of that makes you think lent is being ignored?

Funny how quickly Lent starts getting mentioned once people point out it’s being ignored. This is the power of social media: it forces public figures to notice what they’d rather glide past.
Keir Starmer@Keir_Starmer

Today, as Lent begins, I’m sending my best wishes to Christians in the UK and around the world. As you follow Christ’s example of sacrifice and renewal, you embody the spirit of public service that strengthens our communities. Thank you for all you do.

@CF_Farrow Do you not find it tiring having to constantly be outraged about something, to the point you have to convince yourself that Shrove Tuesday has meaningful enough significance that the King should be tweeting about it? Just enjoy pancakes like the rest of us.

@SamanthaTaghoy Sorry to do a second “also”, but not only is this a dumb faux-outrage take, it’s not even based on a true lack of posts by the CofE. See exhibit a.

@SamanthaTaghoy I see we’re at the “making stuff up” level of the grift. Shrove Tuesday is in no way, shape or form “integral to the Christian faith”. It’s also not holier than any other day. Also, why would the CofE/Archbishop of Canterbury tweet about a feast only celebrated by Catholics, lol

I observe two main liturgical seasons: trying to finish ‘Cruxifixction’ by Fleming Rutledge and trying to finish ‘Advent’ by a Fleming Rutledge. The rest is Ordinary Time (finishing neither).

@ZackGold16 @narindertweets @GilliganMg at this point, the argument becomes “what counts as going to church” and therefore “what counts as a church” - I’ve not got the time to have that discussion now unfortunately, but the principle is that Christians should gather with other Christians regularly.

@ZackGold16 @narindertweets @GilliganMg You’re quoting Matthew 18.17, have a look at the whole passage it’s in (v15-18). The expectation is that Christians will be gathered together, and in a sense under the authority of, a local gathering of believers. How big or small this gathering is isn’t specified, you’re right.

@ZackGold16 @narindertweets @GilliganMg Biblical faith has always involved being part of a faith community - true for Jews in the OT, true for the early church in the NT, true for Christians now, and why it’s commanded explicitly and implicitly. Having a faith, but ignoring commandments is lying according to 1 John 2
