Istanbul is The City of Cats : they are everywhere. Everyone chips in and leaves food out for the strays. I'm pretty certain this moggy has a home though

@SandyofSuffolk @tomhfh Sandy - the whole princple of pension savings is it tax exempt during the accumlation phase. I know this is complex stuff so maybe just shut up and post pictures of your children to social media instead

@tomhfh But most pensioners have small private pensions too, so will be paying even more tax. You know, being taxed again on the same money we were taxed on when we earned it, and then scrimped to put it into a pension.

'Tribal Indian types eating foraged food - OMG, we need to send Tabitha right for this story ' It's beyond parody that some gimp in Clerkenwell thinks this is news - it's not even worth 200 words in the Assam Times theguardian.com/global-develop…

@TomWrightAsia A rich person hangs out with other rich people and buys a jet. Great story. It's full of details of wrong doing and not just a string of inuendos with no actual point.

Thank you to @TheRestHistory Club members for the incredibly generous reaction to our first books podcast. On Friday Tabby & I will be exploring the dystopian horror of THE HANDMAID'S TALE. How does it reflect the politics of the 1980s? Not a member? ➡️ theresthistory.com.

I see it's 'Pay the travel writers in awards, rather than cash' season again If journalists are so clever why do they all fall for the same trick?

Nepal is the second most dysfunctional place I've worked out of apart from Equador, a country where a presidential candidate was assassinated three days after I legged it out of Quito. 19 dead coz of a twitter ban? bbc.com/news/articles/…

JFC - I've now come across a monstrosity called 'bell hooks'. Apparently she lower-cased the spelling of her name to ‘draw attention to her work’ instead of her!!! Yup nothing narcissistic about that. At all en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bell_hooks

Also avoid tall men who are shit at sport. Double red flags if he has hair that flops over his forehead in a way that makes you want to punch him

@aroaringboy @XOptimiser @andrew__reed Maybe you have had bad experiences of having meetings with people who are pretending to have done the necessary prep but instead are just bullshitting, therefore wasting everybody’s time?

@MulletFarm Amed is nice, it's a stony beach but there are some great bike rides along nearby coastal paths. Candi Dasa on the East Coast is lovely and traffic is much better in that part of the island

@surplustakes Researcherd showed me a graph of 2003-2007 UK GDP growth and equity release figures. There were identical. No growth since 2002 sounds grimly accurate

Remarkable that ONS figures show real wages in London are today at the same level they were in 2002 (i.e. pre-credit bubble) and are 8% down on their 2008 peak. This is the second worst performance of any UK region (after East Anglia). Two lost decades and counting...

Turkmenistan's former president tested airport runway by driving on it at 280 km per hour. Before anybody asks, yes, that is the internationally agreed system for testing a runway
