@theobertram Yes but also no, based on current welfare rules and minimum auto-enrolment contribution rates, millions of lower earners are sacrificing current consumption for private savings which will simply replace means-tested welfare in retirement 👀

Growth higher than forecast, borrowing down, and now inflation falling further than expected. This Labour government has the right economic plan.

English

Last year Reeves organised an effort to force pension funds into 'voluntarily' diverting cash to private markets and UK assets
Months later Labour tried to give itself unlimited powers over investment fund allocation in legislation
Now we have 'voluntary' food price caps

LABOUR is trying to get supermarkets to "voluntarily" cap prices on basic food items according to the FT.

@SimonApperley Separately I’d look to simply the tax system, try and get rid of those silly thresholds, ideally merge NI and tax
English

@PensionsMonkey That would also push a lot of those around the £100k mark who use pension saving to avoid the weird income tax levels at that point to have to pay more tax.

@SimonApperley @andcino Makes sense to have a system with some guardrails around access, to ensure the funds are used sustainably in later life
English

@andcino @PensionsMonkey I wondered the same, but employer unlikely to contribute to an ISA. Also ISA has a cap on contributions each year.
