He went toe to toe with the best emcees from the East coast and screamed Compton the whole way. He collaborated and helped out any artist he could from LA. More importantly, he maintained a west coast sound. There was no mistaking where the guy was from. He repped it fully. The other guy was doing records with Taylor Swift and only resorted to a regional sound when it benefited him. Linked with dudes when it benefited him. It’s night and day.

"Janice STFU" debuted #1 on the Hot 100 and UMG serviced it to rhythmic/urban ONLY no pop impact date his contract with them requires "commercially reasonable efforts" on promotion so rhythmic-only servicing lets them check the contractual box while spending nothing on a real pop push. Meanwhile Ariana and Taylor (Taylor's on Republic, Drake's own label) get full pop campaigns day one. They gave "luther" the pop push and it sat at #1 Pop Airplay for weeks. Drake fulfilled his deal and is suing them they have zero incentive to spend promo money on him. Once he signs a new deal, independent or otherwise he will probably get crazy airplay that sh is going to look insane in hindsight.
