Let me catch everyone up on what happened in Trenton yesterday: My colleagues across the aisle voted NO on my commonsense amendment to protect public safety from convicted violent criminals who are let back into our communities. What exactly are we prioritizing here in NJ?

The @Space_Station rarely makes big changes to its orientation, but we were lucky to experience such maneuvers (flipping around to fly butt-first, then flipping back again) before and after each @spacex CRS-33 reboost. This 60x speed timelapse was one of my favorites since it captures a little of everything - sunset, lightning storms, air glow, moon glint, stars, and sunrise - as we did one (actually very slow) orbital cartwheel from Atlantic to Pacific.

Officially an Independent. Here’s my explanation from July 4th on Facebook of why I left the @TheDemocrats. Independence I have always believed that political parties should be a means to an end, not an end in themselves. In my experience of the Democratic Party over the last 9 years, the Party has become just that; an end unto itself. What follow are my impressions of it: For all of the good that it has historically done (and that is considerable) the Party nevertheless now suffers from several fatal flaws: It is completely dominated by identify politics and prioritizes its catering to special interest groups. It has abandoned any grounding in philosophical rigorism. It has abandoned the first rule of debate: define your terms. It claims to fight for the rights of women but does not (cannot?) even define what a woman is, nor does it even attempt to do when engaging with public policy. It fosters a culture of intellectual bankruptcy and intolerance for any dissenting views from its own. It has lost any sense of nuance and science-based counter-claims in the debate regarding Roe v. Wade. It does nothing to distance itself from radical members who claim that non-citizens should be able to vote in elections, nor does it support more secure elections with voter identification. It fails to understand why illegal immigrants should not be allowed to simply walk into our Country unvetted nor does it understand the fact that enforcement of the laws cannot be selective based on immigration status. It has become so far out of touch with the experience of ordinary Americans, that the DNC recently spent $20,000,000 of donor money in order to figure out how to talk to American men. The far-left wing of the party now dominates the conversation and sets the agenda. The Democratic nominee for NYC Mayor is a socialist who wants to "globalize the intifada." For these and other reasons, I have completed the form to switch my party affiliation to an Independent. Accordingly, as of next Friday, 7/11, this group will become a forum for other Independents to express their views. I have many friends in the party, and their reasons for remaining a Democrat are entirely theirs; I do not judge them. They remain my friends. For my part, I can no longer in good conscience align myself with the Party, whose complete failure on critical policies, as enacted in the previous Administration, led to Trump 2.0. To those who contributed to this group, I offer you my sincere thanks. I encourage you to stay active in politics at all levels. This Republic only works if we all can keep it. If any of you are also disaffected by the Party, I encourage you to also consider registering as an Independent by citing the warning against political parties in the farewell address of George Washington: "Let me now take a more comprehensive view and warn you in the most solemn manner against the baneful effects of the spirit of party, generally. This spirit, unfortunately, is inseparable from our nature, having its root in the strongest passions of the human mind. It exists under different shapes in all governments, more or less stifled, controlled, or repressed; but, in those of the popular form, it is seen in its greatest rankness and is truly their worst enemy...It serves always to distract the public councils and enfeeble the public administration. It agitates the community with ill founded jealousies and false alarms, kindles the animosity of one part against another, foments occasionally riot and insurrection. @DOGE Dept of Defense regulations require all 72 hrs of course credit for Chaplains from a single Masters degree; you can’t have a 48 hr Masters and then add more hours to get to 72.
