Ballsmonkey’s law. You should get an extra five years for stupidity if you film yourself committing a crime.

We should commit to cutting housing benefit by £60 every six months for a period of five years, tank the value of welfare farms and buy them up at rock bottom prices for social housing. Housing benefit is welfare for landlords.

This is absurd. If we need 4,000 training places we should have them. If we don’t, the Prime Minister shouldn’t be offering them as a bribe paid for by the taxpayer.

Name a single country where foreign citizens can access full benefits without being a permanent resident or citizen. There isn’t one. It would undermine a fundamental principle: if you join a society you should contribute to it.
Emily Thornberry@EmilyThornberry

Half of all migrant children currently live in poverty - an already shameful statistic. But the Earned Settlement model will see that poverty prolonged for 90,000 children in working migrant families. That's why my community says the Government must think again.

Having a Labour government is like being governed by people who don;t even live in Britain. But when you realise that hundred of Labour MPs have never had a real job, that's kinda true. They have no idea what makes Britain tick because they have no experience of living in the real world. The pressures and dilemmas people face are just things that happen to other people.

Looking through the various posts from a whole bunch of British MPs today, from all sides, and I'm struck with just how infantile so many of them are. And it's not just that. So much of the content they post can't possibly be true. They must know this. The lies they must tell themselves just to get through the day and satisfy the cognitive dissonance they have to be suffering are astounding. We deserve so much better.

If wind energy is producing 20GW that means you have to have 20GW of conventional generation or interconnector imports on standby for when the weather drops off. You are paying for two energy systems. You have to have a serious brain injury to not understand this.

The demolition @SSE⁩’s Ferrybridge coal power plant today was a symbolic moment for me It demonstrates that change is possible But to limit global temperature rises and keep 1.5C within reach, the whole world needs to plan to consign coal power to history #COP26

Let me explain all the ways this is garbage. 1. From licensing to production take 10-15 years. The article says 2010-2024, but only a fraction of them are active. 2. Uplift, the people behind it, are a anti fossil fuel campaign group. 3. The article says "only 6 months". Six months of UK gas is an enormous amount of gas. About 40 billion cubic metres. 4. The vast majority of the fields are predominantly oil, with gas as a by product. The article ignore the oil production completely. 5. While the fields may not lower bills it brings in valuable tax revenue, creates jobs and helps considerably with the balance of payments. 6. It's The Guardian.
Caroline Lucas@CarolineLucas

Hundreds of licences granted for new North Sea oil & gas projects under the Tories have so far produced just 36 days’ worth of gas. Yet more evidence that a crisis caused by fossil fuel dependence can’t be solved by drilling for more fossil fuels in N Sea theguardian.com/business/2026/…

@fesshole You aren’t allowed to adopt kids if you vape so either you snuck it past the social workers or parenthood has made you take it up..

My wife and I tried for a child for years we have recently adopted and I love our funny adorable children. But I now go for a poo at least seven times a day to get some peace and quiet and have a vape. I now have hemorrhoids.

@LabourfutureUK Interesting choice of words that ignores the main issue. The vape shop was was not licensed/registered to sell vapes. Had enforcement been in place the owners would have faced a £20,000 fine for failing to register The problem lies in lack of enforcement not vapes per se

I don't have "fellow travellers" Aaron I just say it as I see it - and always have The Tories left Labour with a truly ghastly fiscal inheritance - as I've written and said repeatedly. Debt at 90pc-plus of GDP, sky-high taxation and a bunch of nutty net-zero policies. But Labour has reverted to its pre-Blairite economically-illiterate type - and made a bad situation much MUCH worse. This is NOT the time for petty, party-political point-scoring - I'm not interested in that, so don't even try to label me, and I'd suggest that the vast majority of the public isn't either. This is a time for honest, grown-up discussions among serious people about how we fend off what could be a deeply destructive economic crisis .... Are you serious, Aaron? Do you accept that borrowing £14.3bn in a single month, £13bn of which goes to paying interest on existing debt, is insane - and incredibly dangerous ?? Or do you just want to point fingers and curry favour with your friends by calling me names?

If they aren’t going to end the monetization program here, which I think they should, then at the very least they need to significantly raise the standard for who can monetize. The whole point of “revenue sharing” is that the people driving revenue should get a piece of it. But most of these engagement farmers and slop merchants aren’t really driving revenue. Nobody is coming to X to read their stuff. If it happens to pop up in your feed, maybe you interact with it. But their content is totally interchangeable. Just mindless filler. The more you incentivize and reward that kind of content, the more of it you get. They need to come up with a way to incentivize actual high quality content. If they can’t, the whole program should be scrapped.

I do not like declaring a emergency. It’s basically saying that all other functions of government should be sidelined to deal with your particular pet issue. Society always handles multiple “emergencies” at once. Healthcare is an emergency if not attended to. Electricity and food supplies are emergencies that are only prevented by constant expensive efforts by millions of people. We are in a constant multi front war against entropy and bolshy demands that only your front should get resources are ridiculous.
