@bitzsc @Nicky_Zwan_ @levi9_9_2025 @higureshuuen That's the biggest issiue.
> Bible’s framework Some Arab groups are linked to Ishmael, but it does not explicitly say all Arab.
> Islamic tradition, Muhammad is traced back to Ishmael. Arabs are often divided

Yup, sharing only works if they're even slightly interested, but honestly most "outreach" happens after building a real relationship with someone and just sharing life together (because life gets hard for everyone), not harping at a stranger who doesn't want to hear it.
Also, cults that pretend to be Christians like Jehovah's Witnesses that go knocking door to door bug us too!
English

@hotahotasa45082 McDonald's doesn't have real burgers anyways, so it's more we get pissed that they suck so bad for the price when I can go to a restaurant for only slightly more money and get a WAY better burger!
English

I don't think this is weird and my family never did it though because baths didn't fit us! I bathe my children and am 6'5" (~196cm) and haven't comfortably fit in a bath since I was like 13!
My parents are also extremely tall and don't fit in baths either!
Basically, things aren't made for that here, but also nothing fits adults in my family!
English

Sounds bad, but 10k yen to an American traveling there is less than many of our fines here in the states, but I also think an American tourist is probably not the actual problem...
Still, it makes me sad that people don't respect the place you're traveling to when you're a guest. If you don't know the rules or are unsure, ask, don't just do!
English

To those considering moving to Japan, let me be honest with you.
Recently, Kyoto residents put up a sign in Gion: "No tourists allowed. Fine: ¥10,000."
It wasn't the first. Geisha chased through narrow streets, private homes entered without permission, trash left at sacred sites.
The quiet streets we've protected for centuries are losing their silence, one corner at a time.
If you cannot respect personal space, please don't come.
If you cannot ask before entering, please don't come.
If you cannot carry your trash home, please don't come.
This is a sincere request from us.
If you come to Japan, you will be unhappy, and so will we.

@tanpukunokami @My_name_is_L69 You write better than most kids in highschool and middle school today...
After all, literacy in America is declining such that learners in other countries are actually better able to communicate in English than native speakers especially when it comes to writing!
English

You won't believe this, but in Japan, one phrase does the work of like seven English greetings.
It's "otsukaresama."
Literally, it means something like "you must be tired." Almost no one uses it that way anymore.
You answer a colleague's phone. "Otsukaresama desu."
You start a work email. "Otsukaresama desu."
You pass someone in the hallway. "Otsukaresama."
A meeting ends. "Otsukaresama deshita."
You finish a workout with friends. "Otsukare."
You leave the office at 7 PM. "Otsukaresama deshita."
You text a friend after a long day. "Otsukare."
Same word. Hello, goodbye, thank you, good job, are you okay, see you tomorrow, nice work today.
The original meaning has worn off. Linguists have actually studied this. What's left is hard to translate. It's closer to: I see you. I see your day. We're in this together.
Japanese people say it dozens of times a day.
So when someone tells you "otsukaresama," they're not really saying you look tired.
They're just letting you know they noticed you.

@tuuu28283 Wouldn't even be a bother here in Wisconsin, brother!
Some in the cities might not accept it, but everyone else would be fine.

@tanpukunokami I love gari. Not just for the palate cleansing, but it's tasty!
I often finish it even if I don't need it when my sushi is done.
English

That sliced ginger they always give you at sushi places. Remember it?
It's called gari — fresh ginger pickled in sweet vinegar.
Today people eat it between bites to reset their palate. More people love it than you'd think.
But in the Edo era, sushi couldn't exist without it.
Back then, sushi was street food. Eaten by hand. Raw fish, bare fingers.
No napkins. No soap. No hand sanitizer.
So what did they do?
They used gari.
The vinegar disinfected their fingers. The moisture kept rice from sticking. The ginger killed bacteria from raw fish.
That sliced ginger isn't a side dish.
It's Edo-era wisdom, sitting on the corner of your plate.

@dokidoki1969 @pirooooon3 I will say that at least from where I'm from (Wisconsin), our general mindset is quite similar where we don't want to cause problems. Midwest nice is a well-known thing for a reason!

@Jadestormchase Stay safe and have fun!
One of my friends during meteorological school was a storm chaser and it was fun watching his stuff when he did!
The US is an amazing place for some crazy storms and even crazier people, so you should fit right in!

I was walking to school alone at 5 in 1995. Now, my school was within sight of the end of the road we lived on, but it was still not a close walk especially for a 5 year old.
We used to let kids roam and "be home when the streetlights come on" but abductions became too common on cities, but rural areas are still more laid back and kids adventuring is still common.
English

Netflix has a show called Old Enough!
Toddlers running errands.
Alone.
Westerners watch it like a horror film.
Japanese people watch it like a Tuesday.
In Japan, kids as young as 6 ride trains alone to school.
The country isn’t careless — it’s built for them.
Crossing guards.
Volunteer patrols.
Drivers who actually stop.
That’s not luck.
That’s design.

English

@threenotes_jp My area is probably the safest suburb of Milwaukee, so yeah, absolutely, but things aren't very close so waking at night is mostly for exercise.
English

@learning_yohei If this is said when they walk in the door, it's a greeting and "I'm fine, thank you" is the typically response, but it is said from their chair/stool then you have a completely different answer.
It's all about context 🤣

AnimeTrends@animetrends

My argument, as a Christian, is that Christ didn't teach forcing our beliefs on others (that's also a very Jewish thing as well) just that we should tell you what we believe and why and acceptance is up to you.
If you don't choose Christianity, we'll be sad, but I firmly believe true belief cannot be forced.
Also: "A man convinced against his will is of the same opinion still"
English

@KYuriel @higureshuuen My argument would be that with the protestant reformation that it brought the church back to its roots in Jesus and His words instead of whatever priests interpreted it as.
English

@vly2m @higureshuuen This is a lie sold by Muslims for unearned acceptance since countries have seen Jews and Christians assimilate and so then very wrongly assumed Muslims would as well.
Yahweh and Allah are not the same.
I used Yahweh instead of simply "God" since "Allah" means "god" in Arabic.
