@LiteralErrado @Ninoh_Pavard @PauloAnalistas But here’s the thing, in a good team, the attacker will make countless runs like this. Your mid doesn’t make the pass every time - they eventually make 1 or 2. Portugal weren’t good enough as a team. Mids didn’t take charge, and Ronaldo didn’t do what he needed to do as a 9.

@LiteralErrado @Ninoh_Pavard @PauloAnalistas There’s no way that Neves can be a 100% sure that Ronaldo’s off. You have to make the pass, then find out. And I agree the ball wasn’t easy to control, but he got the control spot on with his body, he could easily lobbed it over for Ronaldo.

@JoserNunez91 @dclandofnerds @EliotShorrParks USA were the favorites in that game. It was down to two reasons - the US had cruised until then and had played great football. Belgium despite the talent were lucky to even get to the R16. The favorites tag is usually set by the bookmakers based on bets. That’s how it works

USA straight up choked in that game They were favorites. They have a team worth 300m+ They were at home This wasn’t Davis vs Goliath. Belgium didn’t have way more talent. USA and its best players were just rattled and didn’t show up in a huge game

@BobHealey18 @EuroWynner The US PR victory the OP is talking about is about the country as a whole, and not our soccer team.

If you blame this flop on Trump or anyone but the players then you know nothing of sports. Great players rise up to challenges, this team rolled over. They would not have beaten a good college team tonight. US Men's soccer is not anywhere near the level of world soccer and just admit is they sucked.

Trump managed to turn a World Cup that was honestly turning into a major US PR victory into a total national humiliation. Genius.

@JackMac Turning on a player after one defeat. Really sad. Every player reacts different. We all process emotions different. It’s what makes us human.

@AdamHoge I watched the USA play Wales & England in Qatar. They were mighty impressive in the group stages there. They could only draw those games but were easily the better side. We have the memory of a goldfish. We’re just amping up this WC’s performances because we’re hosting it.

Belgium was great, but the moral victory stuff is weird to me. That’s one of the worst performances I’ve seen from USMNT and it happened in a huge moment for the sport on home soil. The FOX coverage keeps saying they accomplished “a ton.” They didn’t make it any farther than they usually do. What am I missing?

@JonnyRoot_ He was facing the wrong way and his momentum was taking him away from the ball, yet he tried his best and actually got a touch. Freese was at fault here

If you’re the captain of the USMNT and the ball is shot right at you, you HAVE to stop it in this situation. Put your body on the line.

@GreatmenArs Merino didn’t get so clinical because Arteta played him up front. Arteta played him up front because he realized he was clinical and intelligent.

@Sachk0 Tuchel comments based on what he’s seen from the sidelines. When you’re in the dug out watching these things, it is natural to be very biased.

I’m sorry, but what did the officials get wrong? Both penalties correct, especially the Harry Kane one based on what we saw with Luka Modric earlier in World Cup. Red card? Correct again. Come on, Thomas Tuchel.

@PeixaoMilGrau They don't give penalties just because someone goes down. You need to look at things like: did the keeper go for the ball Would Endrick have gotten to the ball if the keeper hadn’t clipped him? It was an embarrassing miss at the end of the day. There are no excuses.

Deixando de lado a chance clara que o Endrick perdeu, isso aqui foi MUITO pênalti. Se fosse para a Argentina, sem dúvidas, o VAR chamava. Detalhe: nesse momento estava 0x0

@bob601448932428 @ArsenalGunny @Lacazest Yes because I know he will die for the team whenever he plays. He might not be the best winger, so let’s get world class players to challenge him. He’s a really good human and a team player and that is very important for harmony in a squad.

Don’t quite understand why Martinelli was taken out of the match btw. Thought he was the best Brazilian on the pitch, easily. Time for him and Gabriel to get some much needed rest before the Arsenal season starts again! 🧘🏻‍♂️

@kss8kbm18 @AFC_Rexzzy When a player of his stature (he’s a superstar in his country) is willing to throw away his ego because it’s the right thing to do, that’s a class act for me.

@Stunna47z @AFC_Rexzzy It’s harder to congratulate your opponent when you’ve lost badly. And when the opponent made you run around like kids. What Neymar did on the pitch to Odegaard was really petty but this was class act. Give him some credit.

@TrevorJudge They are complaining because they would have done all the prep to face a US side without Balogun and FIFA just did something unheard of in world cups that now destroys all of their prep.

It’s actually funny when you realize they are complaining about having to play the US at full strength.

🚨 𝗕𝗥𝗘𝗔𝗞𝗜𝗡𝗚: The Royal Belgian Football Association has released a statement in regard to Folarin Balogun being able to play against them. "The Royal Belgian Football Association (RBFA) is astonished by FIFA's decision to declare suspended United States player Folarin Balogun eligible to play in the USA–Belgium match on Monday, 6 July at 5:00 p.m. (Seattle time)." "FIFA bases its decision on Article 27 of the FIFA Disciplinary Code. This provision states that the FIFA Disciplinary Committee may decide to suspend the enforcement of a previously imposed disciplinary sanction." "However, Article 66.4 of the same FIFA Disciplinary Code clearly provides that a red card (sending-off) automatically results in a suspension for the team's next match, as has been the case for all previous red cards issued during this FIFA World Cup." "Furthermore, and irrespective of the above, the decision is in direct contradiction with the provisions of the FIFA World Cup 2026 Competition Regulations, as set out in Article 10.5: "If a player or team official is sent off as a result of a direct or indirect red card (second caution), they will automatically be suspended from their team's subsequent match. In addition, further sanctions may be imposed." "The automatic nature of such a suspension was also explicitly reaffirmed in FIFA World Cup 2026 Circular No. 16, which was distributed to all participating member associations on 12 May 2026." "The same rule is reiterated at every FIFA World Cup 2026 Match Coordination Meeting prior to each match and is included in all FIFA World Cup 2026 workshop presentations. "In order to safeguard the legitimate rights of all participating teams and to protect the fundamental principles of fair play in our sport, both at this FIFA World Cup and at future editions of the tournament, the RBFA is investigating all potential options."
