The courts should stop treating driving bans like they're this big hardship. If you kill or even seriously injure someone while driving, the ban should be for life. Take the bus and cry me a fucking river.

You somewhat have to. It’s unfortunate for those of us who have speaker systems that can reproduce the full DCI range. But unfortunately, most peoples speaker systems is just physically incapable of reproducing the full DCI range so they have to crush the shit out of it so you can still have a chance in hell of hearing anything in some scenes and not destroy destroying peoples televisions in others.

All studios do this. Home releases have reduced dynamic range—it’s been that way for 30 years. LaserDisc was the last format to carry something close to the theatrical mix. Since DVD, everything’s been re-EQ’d and remixed down. Not a Disney issue—industry-wide.

I am not privy to my students’ lives, but I am privy to the fact that the norm for university-level work is 2–3 hours of preparation per hour of class. 200–300 pages of literary fiction per 3-hour class week seems to fit that metric very well.

Beyond greedy rent seeking there seems to be something else driving landlords to be weirdly invasive with their tenants' personal lives. Why would you require an adult with a job to not drink alcohol or have overnight guests? There is a de facto surveillance state for tenants.

My super strong parenting opinion is that while the kids are awake, you come last.
No spending all of Saturday golfing. That’s family time. 6 am tee time only, maybe.
Wanna go to the gym? Go after the kids go to bed, or wake up at 5.
In a few short years, they’ll be out of the house and you’ll have all the time in the world for your own stuff. It’s okay to come last for a while.
