@DirtyHarry8080 @alanfryermedia I suspect crown would zero in on the “done or omitted by them in their official capacity” element of the offence. Add the complicating factor of parliamentary privilege and I would be surprised if there were a path to conviction simply for enticing an MP to caucus with a role.

#BREAKING: 3.9 Magnitude Earthquake northwest of Ottawa A small earthquake has shaken parts of Southern Quebec and Eastern Ontario this afternoon. According to Natural Resources Canada, the 3.9 moment magnitude quake hit at 12:36pm approximately 19km north-northeast of Shawville, Quebec. It occurred at a depth of 13km, which is fairly shallow by earthquake standards. While this is considered a minor quake, it is certainly strong enough to be felt by those in close proximity to the epicenter. We have already received many reports of it being felt in Petawawa, Pembroke, Renfrew, and Ottawa. So far, no damage is being reported. Did you feel the earthquake? Let us know! - Alannah

Just submitted my last term paper of the semester at RMC. Two years down, baseline theory course, and electives are done. The only course left for me is Research Methods this Fall, then my attention turns to preparing for my comprehensive exam studies.

@DisneyTory @MikeTheNavyGuy1 Good stuff! Definitely timely given CAF expansion. And yeah, I’m struggling with having to tick off certain mandatories but not wanting to miss particularly good courses… I might be biting the bullet on a two course semester in the fall if if I can hate myself enough to do it.

@Simplyt66442038 @mercoglianos Because it’s not selective- USN only intends to stop ships visiting Iranian ports. Hitting a VLCC that sailed out of Kuwait would be, in the language of international maritime law, a ‘dick move’. Also, mines persist and become a problem post-conflict.

So how can the United States enforce a maritime blockade of Iran? 1️⃣ The US will issue a Notice to Mariners announcing the blockade of all Iranian ports along the Persian Gulf, Strait of Hormuz and Gulf of Oman 2️⃣The US will identify all ships currently in ports and monitor those heading to Iranian ports. 3️⃣They will warn off ships heading to Iranian ports. 4️⃣Ships that leave Iranian ports will be identified by the US and monitored. 5️⃣Expect the Navy and Marines off the Tripoli ARG to perform vessel seizures in the Gulf of Oman, in a manner similar to the ops against Venezuelan tankers. The seized ships will probably be sailed to Diego Garcia. NOTE: This is my opinion, based on recent operations, and I have no firm evidence what will happen.

US Central Command issues notice to seafarers about the blockade going into effect in less than two hours, warning any vessel going to or from Iran is "subject to interception, diversion, and capture." The blockade "encompasses the entirety of the Iranian coastline to include but not limited to ports and oil terminals", the note said, adding that humanitarian shipments including food, medical supplies, and other essential goods would be permitted, subject to inspection.

The scariest finding in this paper: the subjects couldn't tell it was happening. UPenn ran this study on 48 healthy adults. One group slept 8 hours. Another slept 6. Another slept 4. For 14 straight days. They tested cognitive performance every 2 hours from 7:30am to 11:30pm. The 6-hour group's reaction times, working memory, and sustained attention deteriorated on a near-linear curve. By day 14 they were performing at the same level as someone who hadn't slept at all in 48 hours. The 4-hour group hit that threshold by day 6. Here's the part that should unsettle everyone who thinks they "do fine" on 6 hours: the subjects' self-reported sleepiness flatlined after the first few days. Their brains kept getting worse. Their perception of how impaired they were stopped updating. The cognitive decline was invisible to the person experiencing it. The researchers found a hard threshold. Any wakefulness beyond 15.84 hours in a day produces cumulative neurobiological cost. That cost compounds every single day you exceed it and does not reset with a weekend of sleeping in. About 35% of American adults sleep less than 7 hours a night. 40% of those get 6 hours or less. In 1942 that number was 11%. We built an entire professional culture around a sleep schedule that this paper says is functionally equivalent to pulling consecutive all-nighters. "I'm fine on 6 hours" is the most common response to sleep research. The first thing chronic sleep debt destroys is your ability to notice chronic sleep debt.
Nicholas Fabiano, MD@NTFabiano

Sleeping <6h a night for 2 weeks reduces cognitive performance equal to 2 nights of total sleep deprivation.

@thewarylemming @johangreg @MountainDreami2 They already achieved a majority. Numerator over denominator - with three seats vancant, Gladu brought them to 171/340. They could pass any bill and survive any confidence matter already. The byelections will just lock it in.

@Arturmaks Weird timing but it checks out. UOttawa was just Nicholas and Laurier being Nicholas and Laurier. Looks like one of the regulars from Waller St may have flashed a pellet gun at someone. McGill sounds like a minor security thing that was misinterpreted. Bizarre coincidence.

@JFFITZPATRICK @MarcLevesqueEco @CherylR09307747 Government spending, such as on salaries, is still a component of GDP. If there’s a productivity concern around public sector employees, fair enough- but the standard GDP formula isn’t where you’ll find it laid out bare.

@MarcLevesqueEco @CherylR09307747 I would suspect that the intent was 'productive' from an economic perspective, that is output to GDP vs cost to GDP from public sector. Its that balance that LPC socialist agenedas have thrown off given which sector contributes to output supporting other.

Canada already has a government run grocery store! CANEX runs ~35 stores to provide grocery and other services on military bases. They don't pay taxes. They also have significant product availability issues. Their grocery operation ran a $13.4M deficit last year

@mattgurney IMO we should have a foreign human intelligence agency for sure- but not by expansion of CSIS. They have their focus and mandate, “threats to the security of Canada”. A foreign HUMINT capability that simply gains information to our advantage would be very different in mindset.

This has always been a bang-head-on-desk issue for me. Should Canada undertake a completely normal and routine international practice that would allow it to better serve its national interests and aid allies? Or would that not be a nice thing to do? Hmmmmm. Tough one.
