@janvbear My grandparents generation put up stuff like this. And had cheap paper icons they framed and hung embroidery on. There’s beauty in these small, humble things that grand cathedrals don’t posses. It’s kitsch and simultaneously perfect.

@chasingdomes God is not opposed to kitsch. There’s a weeping icon from Hawaii that’s a reproduction. The people who hung that cross saw it as light and beauty, representing Christ.

@byzantinetx As an altar boy in my early teens, priest said no charcoal or incense but I will still go around. As soon as the bells started jingling on the thurible the lady who always sat up front started coughing. The priest, from the solea, turned it upside and glared at her 😅🙃

I remember a seminarian brother getting an earful from an older lady for putting "too much incense in." An early lesson on opinions. If we listened to them all, services would be 20 minutes, in a Youtube PiP window, from a barcalounger, while sucking doritos dust from fingers.

Old Catholics love loudly coughing to show they don’t like how much incense is being used at Mass

Це ніщо інше, як дім Божий, і це брама небесна. This is none other but the house of God, and this is the gate of heaven.

@gmoult Based off of this information alone, and not knowing anything else, it’s likely not a conspiracy but true and every unbelievable part of it is also true ❤️
