@Stiff_FC all very true, spinning the narrative that Messi is suddenly disadvantaged is a slap in the face to anyone whos watched the sport for 15+ years.

“Why everyone suddenly hates Messi” is genuinely the most misguided take of all time. I’ve seen so many posts similar to this lately. Painting Argentina and Messi as the ‘victims’ of a big hate campaign. Pull up whatever irrelevant algorithmic data you want. Blame paid accounts. Quote psychological theory. At the end of the day… it’s pretty simple. Barcelona allegedly paid off referees for 2 decades, spanning Messi’s entire career… The Argentinian FA are being investigated for money laundering. We’ve all seen the blatant refereeing favouritism across two World Cups now. We all saw their violent, aggressive and petulant behaviour all tournament. We aren’t blind… Inter Miami, disproportionate to the rest of the MLS, hoarded old European talent and walk the league as soon as Messi arrives. Somehow qualifying for the Club World Cup without actually meeting any criteria for such qualification. This is a plastic club, with no history and purchased success… While you can’t blame all of this on Messi, obviously. He is clearly complicit. He clearly benefits from the purchased success of such institutions. He is clearly a money milking machine for FIFA and America. Something Infantino is well aware of… he ‘suffers’ with Messi after all. And people don’t like it. People don’t like blatantly manufactured success. People don’t like cheats. People don’t like teachers pets. People don’t like players that try and get other players (Cucurella) unfairly sent off in a World Cup final when they are clearly being outclassed on the pitch. People don’t like people that lack integrity. But nah. I guess we’re all swept up in mass hysteria! We’re all brain washed! And this is dangerous rhetoric! Shut up. The Messi bias is nauseating.

@goat83075 Unsubstantiated allegations. Being a “believe all women” feminist is pathetic, but to be expected from Messi fans. What did Messi do to deserve this fandom?

People don’t like Argentina because of corruption, refereeing favouritism, money laundering, racist fans, poor sportsmanship, and unnecessary violence/aggression 🤷🏼‍♂️ But how dare we criticise them for it! We’re all brainwashed! Get a grip mate.

The hate Argentina got this tournament made me realize how easy it is to brainwash and program people. Would love to see someone publish work on this some day as it’s a very interesting case study.

@bammyville @josephjerry001 @_EtniesJags @phatboislym Mind you it literally says “citing an insufficient number of responses from eligible voters” corruption is when players (like Messi) are winning awards over others who are more deserving, story of his career

@bammyville @josephjerry001 @_EtniesJags @phatboislym “just conspiracies and no hard proof” as if the criteria changing every year hasn’t directly benefited Messi, yeah okay. I know what you are. You are plain dishonest going this route because if he was “the best player that season” what is your issue? surely he deserves it right?

Sepp Blatter literally criticized Ronaldo unprovoked and said Messi is a good boy and Ronaldo is arrogant The video is still up on YouTube But if I say FIFA is bias, then I’m a delusional Ronaldo fan lmao

Attackers Spain faced at the World Cup: Uruguay: Nunez Belgium: Doku, Trossard, De Ketelaere, Lukaku France: Mbappe, Dembele, Olise, Barcola, Doue Argentina: Alvarez, Messi (120 minutes) If Ronaldo had put in the same performance Messi did in the final, he'd be blamed for holding Portugal back instead of the team as a whole. The difference in standards tells you why he's the GOAT.

These Messi PR accounts are trying to rewrite history. Argentina's players repeatedly committed reckless challenges throughout the tournament, including elbows and blows to opponents' heads, yet many went unpunished. Messi himself could have been sent off in the opening match, but the referee didnt even show a yellow card. Several challenges that could have warranted red cards did not even result in yellow cards. In the first half of the final, Mac Allister could have been sent off after accumulating two bookable offences, while Tagliafico could also have seen a straight red for ugly foul on Lamine. Neither player was even booked. Eventually, the referee reached the point where Enzo's challenge could no longer be overlooked and finally produced the card. Even after that, Paredes was fortunate not to receive a second yellow. Even after the match, Molina and Parades continue to run their thug show without receiving red cards. The claim that the refereeing somehow went against Argentina in the final is pure gaslighting.
@Bonmatimessi

The Argentina campaign definitely had an effect on this World Cup. Referees were pressured into being harsher thsn usual on them and Messi lost out on a deserved Golden Ball, likely to spare FIFA any controversy from the casuals (and haters) who bought into the narrative

@MavricTweets This ultimately boils down to their belief that Messi DESERVES everything. They don’t believe in merit, Messi is entitled to every award and trophy because of his ability and humility. Anything short of worship is an agenda that directly attacks their worldview.

Ronaldo has had a hate campaign on him for a decade. I have heard him referred to as a ball in the box striker Messi receives valid kick back because of his own actions ONCE, and we are getting think pieces on it 😂😂😂 mental.

Almost every coach who faced Argentina raised concerns about the refereeing. Are they all part of some coordinated campaign? For years, Messi fans dismissed every criticism as propaganda. But the refereeing was so glaring this tournament that far more people began questioning it for themselves. And they realised Messi’s propaganda has been fooling them for ever. That’s what actually happened.
