Calls for a shark cull are growing louder. It follows a horror shark attack on Coogee Beach. Former PM Tony Abbott says we have to “put people before sharks”. Listen to the details HERE. 2gb.com/kill-them-tony…

@BenFordhamLive They were there first! It's their water we are intruding on!! The majority of shark victims alive realise this to. How many times have we heard them say it? We will seriously impact the ocean wildlife if we do. Use drones, use artificial barriers if need be without impacting life

@JimmyRob2110 @politikarma @MikeCarlton01 Do you really not understand? Try a little harder. Accept for a second that at least some of the people supporting her are not stupid and then ask yourself: why would a non-stupid person prefer someone other than the Labor, Greens, Nats or Libs?

@politikarma @MikeCarlton01 How can Hanson be doing this well? A desperately sad state of affairs in Australia that a notorious, long term grifter can be pulling the wool over the eyes of an increasingly stupid electorate.

@Khanima_ @ZeekArkham @SenWarren $8m a day? 🤣🤣 He spends more than a $100m a day paying peoples' wages. Would you like that to stop? It's so funny how you young kids think things through.

@ZeekArkham @SenWarren Um... Zack? Do you even get it? I don't think you do. Sure, Liz Warren is worth $8m or thereabouts; but Elon Musk could spend that amount literally every day and he would never run out of money in a hundred years.

Elon Musk just became the world's first trillionaire. The typical American household would have to work more than 11 MILLION years to make Elon Musk's level of wealth. We need a wealth tax.

@OMGTheMess A super-complicated, unevenly targeted rort conceived by financially illiterate commies. Even with grandfathering, the calculation method for minimum 30% CGT, severely penalises holders of older investments if the taxpayer is also realising post july-2027 gains and losses.

@smith_johnxxxx @JacintaAllanMP You'll stop wasting people's time. Currently agents use out-of-range-hopefuls to create a fake image of desirability to boost demand from in-the-money bidders. Not everything a corrupt communist government does is bad.

For too long, Victorians have wasted their Saturdays at auctions chasing homes they were never going to get. That ends now. Labor's Australian-first laws will require agents to publish a reserve price at least seven days before any auction or sale.

I am absolutely fed up with the relentless targeting of Grace Tame. Let's be clear. There is a difference between fair criticism and a public pile-on. What we keep seeing directed at Grace is not constructive debate. It is constant scrutiny, personal attacks, outrage cycles and a level of judgment that seems reserved for women who dare to speak too loudly, too honestly or too unapologetically. Grace Tame survived child sexual abuse. She helped change laws. She gave a voice to countless survivors. She has spent years doing work that most people would never have the courage to do. Yet the attacks never seem to stop. A few weeks ago it was the Prime Minister taking aim at her. Now it's Charlie Pickering. Before that, countless commentators, columnists and social media critics. Different names, same pattern. And frankly, it disgusts me. No, women in public life should not be immune from criticism. Nobody is. But there is a world of difference between criticism and the kind of sustained public hounding that seeks to diminish, discredit and exhaust someone. As someone who has experienced public judgment and media attacks, I know how destructive these campaigns can be. They reduce human beings to caricatures. They erase context. They encourage outrage while ignoring the very real emotional toll on the person at the centre of it. What troubles me most is that women who survive violence are so often expected to be perfect. The moment they become angry, outspoken, political, imperfect or inconvenient, they are treated as fair game. Grace Tame has contributed more to the conversation about sexual abuse and survivor advocacy in this country than most of her critics ever will. Maybe it's time some of the men lining up to take shots at her stopped and asked themselves a simple question: Why are they spending so much energy attacking a survivor instead of supporting the change she helped create? Enough. #gracetame #charliepickering

NEWS: One month until 14 million Australians get another tax cut. Altogether Labor's five different tax cuts will benefit the average worker by up to $2816. We're getting on with the job of cutting income taxes and making the tax system better and fairer.

My heart breaks for her. An entire country backed a man who abused her and wouldn’t take no for an answer. They gave him control over her. Control over her company. Control over her life. All bc she wouldn’t bend the knee to him. 😢😢😢

“Miss Grover left the court without making any comment. She later posted on social media saying she was “absolutely devastated” & that women were being discriminated against. … I also said, “we will all wake up tomorrow & men will still not be women.” An important point.

@shorewalker1 @slpng_giants_oz There are many other factors pushing prices up: - houses are bigger and better. I'd live to see a study that compared size/quality of the median house over time. All we hear is the price. - People have far more disposable income now. Eg 50% wage increase = 100% more boŕrowing

Not sure what you're arguing here. But my summary of the current research on this is as follows: - Migration likely affects housing prices. - And it almost certainly affects rental prices. But so far there's little evidence that migration is the prime factor behind the housing price rises that Australia has seen in recent years. clubtroppo.com.au/2025/04/21/imm…

@slpng_giants_oz Crunching some numbers here; new neg gearing and CGT actually make many investment scenarios more attractive, particularly high rent, low growth assets (eg units). Also deferring neg gearing claims to the year of property sale when CG pushes sellers into high marginal rates.

@Mal78Cho @BenWill8254 @slpng_giants_oz Most debate on these economic issues lacks clear numbers and facts. Alan did try to bring some of that this morning but unfortunately his live debating skills were rusty and some of his points were going over Squires' head.

@JEChalmers Pre-july-2027 gains should be exempt from the new minimum 30% tax rule in the same way these gains will still be subject to the old 50% discount rule.

@JEChalmers The minimum 30% tax on capital gains is actually a retrospective tax on past earnings. Gains that have accrued over many years that were expected to be tax-free in retirement will now be taxed at 30%.

@PKRJED @onslowshipping @rn_lilydale The issue is not the 30%. The problem is that it is a minimum of 30%. If my wife and i have $0 other income (eg retired) and have a $60000 gain from selling an investment property we will now pay $18000 in tax. Under old rules we would pay $1500. That's a $16,500 hit.

budget.gov.au/content/bp1/do… CGT discount removed on ALL assets, AND minimum CGT rate of 30%, even if you earned exactly $0 in normal income during that year. Perhaps the most disgusting, anti-productive, uncompetitive change to Australian fiscal policy in modern history

@Langvingers @onslowshipping Gains that are accrued before 1/7/27 will get 50% discount. That amount is then added to the top of your other taxable income. If your marginal rate is less than 30% then 30% tax will apply. If your marginal rate is 45% then you'll be taxed at 45%.

@onslowshipping But I can revalue my property at 1 July base ateat valuation and then have no capital gain but a minimum 30% . So does the 30% flow into my taxable income and then get taxed at 45% or is the minimum a net 30% tax payable on the gain?
