@juliknl @kettanaito Same. We’re about to go full circle using sublime text just so I can avoid these shitty AI panels. I’ve grown to like Zed, I really want them to keep it the way it was. Let somebody toggle that AI panel ON if they want but default off

Zed just rolled out an update that completely breaks my workflow. It merges all windows, messing up window navigation hotkeys. It turns them into workspaces for AI or whatever. Please don't do that. If you disrupt my flow, you're speedrunning my hatred toward your features.

@kettanaito Thank you for telling me so I avoid auto updating. Sounds like they’re ruining it just like Cursor. I like having separate windows per project, helps me focus. I hope they add a way to toggle this off, I don’t want it.

@DavidKPiano none of my code is written by AI - extremely impressive now - no one is doing it - empathy when things go wrong

Dear companies: stop bragging that most of your code is written by AI - Not impressive anymore - Everyone is doing it - Not a good look when things go wrong

One time I was tasked with exploring an idea. The entire company used PHP. I was bored and didn’t want to use PHP for this proof of concept. I spun up a Next.js repo backed by a PHP microframework and made my first couple commits to an org repo. Next thing I know my manager wants to chat. He was like hey so I just heard from these two engineers that you’re using a stack that’s not been approved for use and they’re worried that you’re going to make a POC then hand it off to them and no one here knows Next.js or Node. I said oh, that’s interesting, but you should tell them I said to fuck off I am not planning to ship my POC and he was like okay I’ll maybe not relay those exact words. Anyway that project remained on Next.js + PHP because of course I shipped the POC to prod, then handed it to them and left the company. And it won the fast company award for accelerating science research communication during the pandemic. The moral of the story is fuck you don't go around me.

@wesbos @peer_rich I was so confused until I realized what you’re talking about. We called this “slug bug” rather than punch buggy😆

@jasonlbeggs @laravelphp Incredible! Thank you!!! I’ve been needing this. Any chance you could consider this? Hopefully it could be an easy change and would help a ton x.com/deriegle/statu…
Devin Riegle@deriegle

I'd love for @laravelphp cloud to add this "edit" button to commands. It could instantly send you back to the commands page with your previous command autofilled so you can change it. (For example, I want to remove "--dry-run" in this case)

@simeonGriggs @RhysSullivan I've started to get asked to review 7 page "initial draft" system designs. I'm starting to ask them to boil it down to a single page. It's just too much You used to get a paragraph and a diagram and that was good enough to chat over...

@RhysSullivan I write more than I build but I’m finding the same. It’s easy to generate a lot of research on a topic and spin up a lot of text—but I don’t actually understand any of it until I manually think, write, read and test for myself. Only then do I stop feeling lost.

not having to type is really nice, but i think i want to go back to manually writing the code myself and more leveraging LLMs for research and understanding of the codebase it's just too easy to defer you thinking today and end up in a bad state
Rhys@RhysSullivan

from my experience, even the best models (Opus 4.6, 5.4 xhigh / 5.3 codex) cannot write good code today without an amount of work that is equivalent to just doing the work myself am excited for a world where they can, but in the current state i have very low trust in them

have been pulled into a discussion where everyone is just asking everyone else what the next step is and who owns it, and i feel like they probably tagged me in specifically because they know this will annoy the shit out of me and i will take over
