Switzerland had a long-standing plan to close its three nuclear power plants, generating 30% of electricity. The Swiss Senate just voted to reverse this decision, opening up a path to Small Modular Reactor deployment. "Since the war in Ukraine, energy security has also taken on new importance. Policymakers want to reduce dependence on imported gas and electricity in winter. In short: concerns about blackouts and climate targets...." swissinfo.ch/eng/climate-ad…

VW Announced to Eliminate 50,000 Jobs in 🇩🇪 Germany VW will now "continue to systematically reduce costs," Antlitz declared. Therefore, further jobs will be cut in Germany: "A total of around 50,000 jobs are to be eliminated across the entire Volkswagen Group in Germany by 2030," explained Group Board Member Oliver Blume in a letter to shareholders. At the end of 2024, VW had already agreed with the unions on a reduction of 35,000 jobs by 2030, primarily at the core VW brand. All my bad predictions about VW Group in the last decade became true.
Alex@alex_avoigt

VW Group Profit in 2025 Down by 44% Profit fell from €12.4 billion to €6.9 billion. Operating profit dropped by 54%. Revenue declined by 0.8% to just under €322 billion. In 2025, the VW Group's sales slipped just below the nine million mark – 0.5% less than the previous year. Across all brands, the Volkswagen Group sold almost nine million cars – 0.5% fewer than the previous year. Profit, revenue, and sales fell dramatically, and no stabilization is in sight because the company still hasn't grasped that autonomous vehicles are the future of transportation and is instead trying to push ICE technology. Despite the massive drop in profits, the carmaker is again paying its board members millions in bonuses this year. The decisive factor is the net cash flow, which, surprisingly and thanks to creative accounting, remained above the required levels, thus enabling a payout to top management. This is the worst result in 10 years. The company now plans further cost-cutting measures: around 50,000 jobs are to be eliminated in Germany by 2030. I expect further declines this year, along with layoffs, and plant closures in 2026.

Elon offers 🇩🇪Giga Berlin Semi, Cybercab and Optimus Production under One Condition He also offers Germany the largest factory complex in 🇪🇺 Europe. Here are the key statements Elon made according to media source at the internal meeting Wednesday where a recorded discussion between André Thierig and Elon was presented to the employees of 🇩🇪 Giga Berlin. Elon “Well, things certainly become more difficult when there are, so to speak, external organizations pushing Tesla in the wrong direction,” Elon is quoted as saying. “We won’t close the factory, but realistically, we won’t expand it either.” He went on to describe it as "one of the coolest factories in the world." "Giga Berlin is a fantastic factory," he was quoted as saying. "The vibe there is cool. When you walk around, you know it's very clean, it's pretty nice inside and out." Tesla has "just started ramping up battery cell production." According to Elon, the production of the mid-size SUV Model Y will also be scaled up, "especially once we get approval for more supervised full self-driving features." The next big product will "most likely be the Tesla Cybercab," But there are also possibilities for the humanoid robot Optimus and the electric truck Semi. "So Tesla has a lot of products in the pipeline; there's a lot of potential. I think if things go well, we would expand Giga Berlin as much as possible," the CEO explained. In short, Elon Musk is offering all of Tesla's exciting future products, including the Cybercab, as well as Optimus or Semi, should the unions fail to secure a majority on the works council. When Thierig objected that there was "plenty of space" in Grünheide, Musk is said to have replied: "Well, assuming the authorities are supportive and the people are supportive. Then we would probably expand to make it the largest factory complex in Europe."

It is unlikely that Elon Musk will approve any expansion of 🇩🇪 Giga Berlin if the IGM Union win a majority in the works council election in March. According to media reports (Handelsblatt) claiming to have a recording of a meeting between Elon Musk and the workforce at Giga Berlin from Wednesday, Elon Musk stated that if the IG Metall union wins a majority on the works council, there will be no expansion of the factory. A majority of the IGM Union in the works council would give the Union influence on many decision about the factory and thus undermines the Tesla Management. I doubt that the Unions will win the election but we'll see.

@alex_avoigt A hybrid only achieves low consumption figures if it is always and everywhere charged. If you follow these rules, a BEV is clearly the better alternative without compromise. Hybrid Real World Consumption Calculator: ecalc.ch/toolbox/Plug-i…

Fraunhofer Institute Study: Hybrids Are the Worst of All Worlds The Fraunhofer Institute in Germany has published a new study on the CO2 emissions and usage of hybrid vehicles, and the results are as bad as expected. On average, hybrids consume about 5.9 liters of fuel per 100 kilometers in everyday driving. This is not only significantly higher than the figures in the manufacturers' brochures, but also deviates by around 300 percent from the WLTP values determined under laboratory conditions. The hope that the electric drive is now being used more extensively has also not been fulfilled. The proportion of kilometers driven electrically averages only 25 to 30 percent. In other words, three out of every four kilometers are covered by the combustion engine. This means that the real-world fuel consumption of modern plug-in hybrids is almost on par with that of conventional combustion engine vehicles. For example, around half of Porsche's hybrids are never charged at all. With an average of 27,000 kilometers driven per vehicle, a total of only seven kWh were charged. In other words, the vast majority of Porsche hybrids operate almost exclusively in combustion engine mode. Now some will claim 'well I use the battery if my hybrid all the time' and the study has some bad news for you: Even regular charging of the battery does not reduce fuel consumption below 2.8 liters/100 km in the so-called "charge-depleting mode", as the combustion engine is often switched on when higher power demands are met. For many years, I have warned against hybrids because they are the worst solution of all. Hybrids contain two drive systems, which results in more CO2 emissions during production and increases vehicle weight. The small battery is very often never used, and even when it is, its small size puts it under considerable strain due to frequent charging cycles, leading to early technical problems. Anyone who frequently charges their hybrid should therefore ask themselves why they aren't driving a pure electric car, as long distances can be covered perfectly well with BEVs. Hybrids are a deception of the customer because they help the established automotive industry sell combustion engine vehicles under the guise of doing something good for the environment, which is factually false. Chart: Fuel Consumption of Hybrid vehicles by brand. The average fuel consumption of all plug-in hybrid vehicles in everyday driving is 5.9 liters per 100 kilometers. Depending on the model and manufacturer, it can even be higher, the study shows. In such cases, electric drive no longer makes sense. publica-rest.fraunhofer.de/server/api/cor…

The VW Group Board “finds” €6 Bn and Secures its Bonuses VW Group must save 13 billion and is laying off 35,000 employees, but is still paying millions in bonuses to board members. As previously reported, VW is reducing its workforce by 35,000 employees over several years and must save 13 billion to enable the transformation. The company is also selling holdings and entire subsidiaries. All this means that bonuses to managers will fall to zero, but suddenly there is a surprise. Chief Financial Officer Arno Antlitz had achieved a cash inflow (net cash flow) of six billion euros at the end of the year – even though an internal figure of zero euros had previously been quoted. However, with the six billion euros now reported, the highest bonus level is reached. This means up to 1.75 million euros extra for each member of the board. In the past, the VW board has always ensured that, despite layoffs and painful austerity programs, its own bonuses continue to flow, and this is clearly still the case today.

Unions improved workers lives enormously when they first became a thing. But the IGM-Tesla thing? That's ridiculous and the exact opposite of what unions are supposed to do.
Alex@alex_avoigt

Tesla is Suing the German Union IGM Tesla accuses an external union representative of secretly recording a works council meeting at 🇩🇪 Giga Berlin on Tuesday. Such internal information has been appearing in the media for years and has been used to portray Tesla in a negative light. As a result, the union representative was excluded from the meeting. The police confiscated his computer and took witness statements. Tesla has filed a criminal complaint against the external IG Metall representative. A Tesla spokeswoman confirmed the information. reuters.com/sustainability… The IGM has been desperately trying to pressure Tesla for years to sign a collective agreement. Tesla refuses to do so, and every vote has resulted in employees rejecting union co-determination. In many cases, the IGM's actions are borderline legal, and now Tesla has taken action for the first time.

These files are a BOMBSHELL. Thanks to the @JudiciaryGOP, we now have proof that the EU has been actively censoring legal content that goes against their agenda—and that they interfered in at least 8 European elections, including the Dutch elections of 2023 and 2025, by meeting with social media platforms to pressure them to censor political speech in the days before the vote. Leading up to the Dutch elections of 2023 the EU commission even made the then Dutch Interior Ministry @hugodejonge a "trusted flagger" entitled to make priority censorship requests under the DSA. What kind of political speech did they want to censor, you ask? - “Populist rhetoric” - “Anti-government/anti-EU content” - “Anti-elite” content - “Political satire” - “Anti-migrant and Islamophobic content” - “Anti-refugee content/anti-immigrant sentiment” - “Anti-LGBTQI content” - “Meme subculture” In other words, anything that goes against their agenda, anything remotely right-wing or conservative, and anything pertaining to the disastrous migrant situation we have here in Europe. And guess what the only platform was that did not cooperate? @X, of course. The same platform that the EU is fining for 120 million euros under the DSA and the same platform that is currently having its offices raided in France. This is the type of stuff over which governments should resign and institutions like the EU should fall. Democracy is dead. Abolish the EU! Now!

The Tesla fans criticizing me for pointing this out are completely missing the point. "It's normal. They are still testing." Shut up. Having a safety monitor in the testing phase is normal. No one is arguing against that. What's not normal is moving that safety monitor to the passenger seat and now to a trailing car. There's no safety benefit over having the safety monitor behind the steering wheel. None. That's where they should be until Tesla can prove that they are useless. That's it. The only reason they are not doing that is for optics, which has been my whole point since the beginning of the Robotaxi program. It's about the illusion that Tesla is close to solving autonomy (even though Musk has been saying for years that it is already solved). That's a whole can of worms on its own, but it's ultimately about safety. Can anyone tell me why it is safer than Tesla keeping the safety monitor in the driver's seat ready to take control?
Fred Lambert@FredLambert

All smoke and mirrors since the beginning. The Robotaxi program is a distraction from Tesla not delivering on the promise of unsupervised self-driving, which it sold to millions of consumer car buyers. It's also meant to boost the $TSLA stock price, as the illusion of leadership in autonomy keeps Tesla's 300 P/E ratio stock alive. Just a few months ago @elonmusk claimed Tesla Robotaxi would cover half the US and 500 cars would be operating in Austin alone. In fact, Tesla is operating only a handful of car at a time and with safety monitor (inside or outside the cars) because its crash rate is way higher than humans otherwise. The small fleet reduces the risk while keeping the illusion that Tesla somehow competes with Waymo.

Tesla should offer a one time, lifetime-of-the-vehicle FSD transfer for HW3 owners that purchased FSD. Per Tesla & Elon, HW3 vehicles are very likely going to require a significant hardware upgrade in order to become fully autonomous like their HW4+ counterparts. Doing this will ensure a few things: 1) HW3 owners will feel much better taken care of, especially as early adopters of the technology 2) It will give a big incentive for HW3 owners to trade in their cars as unsupervised FSD becomes real 3) It centralizes HW3 cars for Tesla to upgrade, instead of doing one off jobs. Collect all the HW3 cars, send them through a centralized service line, spit them out as Robotaxis. If the owner still doesn't want to transfer to a new vehicle, they can trade in their transfer token for a hardware upgrade at some point in the future. That allows Tesla to know what sort of scale of hardware upgrades they are dealing with ahead of time.
Sawyer Merritt@SawyerMerritt

NEWS: Tesla has started to inform customers in the U.S. that free FSD transfer will end on March 31, 2026. Tesla has previously said free FSD transfers would end “that quarter,” but this is the first time in many quarters they’ve communicated a specific end date. Time will tell if this is truly the final quarter. There are only 28 days left to buy FSD outright. After that, Tesla will make it subscription-only.
