The sharp angle comes from how a smooth trajectory is projected onto a rotating Earth. Orion follows a continuous path through space while the planet rotates beneath it. During reentry it is moving eastward relative to the surface far faster than the Earth is turning, which shifts the ground track across longitudes as it descends. When that curved path on a sphere is drawn on a flat map, the change in direction is compressed into a visible bend, especially over long distances.
