“communication is key” but no one talks about how scary real communication is. it’s not cute texts and long calls. it’s “here’s where you hurt me here’s what I need here’s what I’m afraid to say” it’s swallowing pride risking rejection, choosing honesty over comfort.

You know what else emits a dim light around 6 am
Aakash Gupta@aakashgupta

Mark Zuckerberg engineered a custom hardware device for his wife in 2019. No clock face. One faint light. A one-hour window. Priscilla had a specific problem. She'd wake up in the middle of the night, check her phone for the time, and the number itself spiked her anxiety. 4am meant worry about the kids waking soon. 5:30 meant calculating whether to just get up. The information was the trigger. Most engineers approach "can't sleep" by adding things to the bedroom. A meditation app. A Hatch alarm. A weighted blanket. A sleep coach. Mark removed the variable that was running the wake-up loop. The Sleep Box sits on Priscilla's nightstand and shows nothing for 23 hours a day. Between 6am and 7am it emits a single faint light. Faint enough not to wake her if she's still asleep. Visible enough that if she's already up, she knows it's okay to start the day. The rest of the night, dark. No clock. No time display. If she wakes at 3am she has no data to push her cortisol up with, so she goes back to sleep. He wrote the firmware and built the enclosure himself. No team, no procurement, no Meta resources. He posted the result on Instagram and said it worked better than he expected. The design move most CEOs would never run is the personal one. The instinct is to outsource a family problem to a specialist. A sleep coach. A doctor. A consumer electronics startup with a Series B and a marketing budget. Mark intervened at a specific link in the chain. Time data hitting Priscilla's brain at 3am was what broke sleep. The phone got moved off the nightstand and replaced with a box that physically cannot deliver that data. The box has no clock. That's the entire product.

@OliJamesScr @chlosiphus It's close to the equator posting, cos no one else in the rest of the world experiences sunrise at even a similar time during the day. In the UK it's between 4am or 8am depending on the time of year so not really helpful

Once I had a patient that complained of a rash around his genitalia but the symptoms he gave me weren’t conclusive and felt off so I told him to go to the more private room so I could examine him, a male nurse came in and I asked him to do it for me because -

@maggiejet @jonnysmorrison @HasAhmed_ Didn't hear you mention it though. But it doesn't matter because you are allowed to complain without having to think of those less fortunate. I can complain about bad food without having to mention those that are starving.

@frahnetic @jonnysmorrison @HasAhmed_ I didn’t make it all about me. Yes I live where such poor services happen. No Sunday services. No night time buses. The tweet that began all this was moaning that non Londoners don’t see 9 mins as a delay. But the converse is that Londoners often don’t appreciate what they have.

@maggiejet @jonnysmorrison @HasAhmed_ You don't have to make other people's problems all about you. A 9 minute delay is a problem when millions of people are being transported. We don't need to be conscious of the difference. Have you considered that some towns don't have any even an hourly bus service?

@frahnetic @jonnysmorrison @HasAhmed_ I didn’t say it was Londoners’ fault. Only that they don’t appreciate the exceptional difference. This all started with someone moaning about a 9 min delay. For us that’s virtually running early. Our service is deplorable, & much dearer, while the councils try to stop car use.

@maggiejet @jonnysmorrison @HasAhmed_ We're not spoilt, there's millions of residents and those commuting in, plus tourists. You are underserved perhaps, but it's not our fault and nor should we settle for less

@frahnetic @jonnysmorrison @HasAhmed_ And for us 3-4 trains not arriving would be a wait of 2+ hours. With the same proportionate issue. And rather than 10-16 carriages when one does arrive, it’s 3. London commuters don’t appreciate how spoilt they are having the tfl service.

@maggiejet @jonnysmorrison @HasAhmed_ Instead of thinking of it like 9 minutes, think of it as 3-4 trains in-between not arriving. Most of those are already packed. So now 4 trains worth of people have to spread out across the next 3 trains.

@frahnetic @jonnysmorrison @HasAhmed_ It doesn’t 🙄And the point is, if the following train is packed you have another along in a few minutes. Not 30+. Outside of London a 9 min delay is as good as on time. That’s what the whole discussion is about. You’re so used to the frequency you can’t even see that’s a luxury.

@maggiejet @jonnysmorrison @HasAhmed_ So no new info. The central line transports over half a million people a day. 9 minute delay means no space to actually get on because hundreds of other people are waiting. If the Salisbury to Southampton route only carries 20 people and hour than yeah it's probably nbd

@frahnetic @jonnysmorrison @HasAhmed_ This particular aspect was in relation to cost over a distance of around 24 miles. But the bigger conv is about Londoners being upset over a 9 min transport delay. Being completely unaware how luxurious that would be for the rest of the country.

I think girls trip features are actually a lot more exciting than brat remix features. Maybe because the most exciting brat features were pre album release singles

@frahnetic @jonnysmorrison @HasAhmed_ Ok 😂but point is it’s capped. If commuting outside of London there’s no cap. I used one example of a journey of a similar distance to the one being challenged.

@heathcliff_184 @FionaSmall Y'all and youse are more formal than "you man". Either way, there is no plural you in standard modern English - the fact that regional variants of English have adapted to this and created one doesn't change that and you acting dumb doesn't change it either
