@voberoi With the "and discloses personal information" headline for a moment I thought Ariola like introduced her and then just started doxing her "this is our winner, her brother is named John, her mother's maiden name is Simpson,..."

And, finally, also not a new bill -- but Amanda Jaggernath, a student at MS137 in Queens addresses the council after winning a veteran's essay context, a nice little moment in today's meeting.

Now on @citymeetingsnyc: this afternoon's Stated Meeting. @NYCCouncil introduces legislation and passes legislation at these. There's always an address by the speaker + lots of remarks on the record -- you can find these chapters on the site. Here's all the new legislation 🧵

I think the hardest thing for me the last few years has been seeing so many talented scientists who obviously belong in the academy turn into tech company middle managers or startup founders.

@zeeg Okay but what if we understand the valuations of companies using the word AI?

The industry would be a lot better if we'd stop using the word AI for every new tech that we dont understand

Anybody have any suggestions for wireless boosters/repeaters that can reliably get a signal inside a 5th wheel camper roughly 500 ft away, and hold up to rough weather?

@zeeg That said, you all + Honeycomb + new Lightstep + New Relic (at least in one iteration) all seem to be pricing similarly (although with somewhat different axes), so completely willing to believe that I'm missing a big cost driver.

Glad the industry has aligned on this. People at Sentry were skeptical when we kicked off this project years ago, but the math behind data volumes speaks for itself. blog.sentry.io/introducing-dy…

@zeeg I mean - is it really, though? We were doing tail sampling on Lightstep Classic (RIP) but then rage moved to Tempo - the DX sucks but GCS + Parquet machine goes brrrrr

That blog post these days is somewhat outdated as our thinking has evolved as we've gathered more customer insights, but the gist is still there: Sampling is required at any reasonable scale, and even small projects often hit scale concerns these days.

Don't know what this is about, but it's highly suspicious. Dozens of bot accounts with similar cartoon pics & names like "@VirginiaB72124" have followed me and the Oaklandside in recent weeks. They're all brand new and all follow roughly the same 2 dozen Bay Area news accounts.

@isosteph I think he screwed it up - the way it's "supposed" to work is you ask somebody for their name and when they say their first name, you say "oh of course, {Soandso} I meant your last name" so you like get the name and a neg in too? I dunno

Ah, yes, the Three Laws of Hypergrowth Startup Dynamics: 1) All systems that existed before you were unscaleable, unmaintainable nightmares 2) Any replacement system you proposed and worked hard on was extremely challenging, saved the business, and merits your promotion

Counterpoint: Java (Scala) microservices we’re an absolute nightmare for us at Twitter as we migrated off Ruby on Rails. Much of the complexity that Elon mentioned after he bought the company was from this architecture.

@mikejulian the shy booky one also does doc review for the dramatic reveal, and their schedule for the case is like two depositions and a three day trial. Might just not be that many billables in the Eastern District of TV-land?

@mikejulian I mean, TV show law firms are out here running big litigation with a team of five (grizzled named partner, slightly more approachable junior partner/senior associate, young buck, young buck maybe-love-interest?, the shy booky one)

One of the interesting things about TV shows when portraying good guys with lots of money is how often they downplay the numbers. eg a good guy's law firm taking a $250k retainer and portraying it as massive
