I have learned the hard way that there is almost never finality in law. Whether you're in a lawsuit or filing for approval for a building permit or even a patent, there's almost always some little maneuver that can be used to delay the proceeding or send it back to another earlier stage. The takeaway is that you should almost never think "This is all I'll have to spend, I just need to do this last filing, this last appeal" — no, that's wrong. Since its writing my company has been sued in bankruptcy court (by the company that filed bankruptcy! Who knew that was even possible?) and we wait with bated breath as to whether their new lawsuit will continue in bankruptcy or go back to district court (for the 4th time).
