"One day Gates Brown wasn't in the Tigers starting lineup, so he grabbed two hot dogs from the clubhouse. Manager Mayo Smith told him to pinch hit. He stuffed the hot dogs in his jersey to hide them from his manager. "I always wanted to get a hit every time I went to the plate. This was one time I didn't want to get a hit. I'll be damned if I didn't smack one in the gap and I had to slide into second-head first, no less. I was safe at second with a double. But when I stood up, I had mustard and ketchup and smashed hot dogs and buns all over me. The fielders took one look at me, turned their backs and damned near busted a gut laughing at me. My teammates in the dugout went crazy." Gates Brown was then fined $100 and when Mgr. Smith asked him what he was doing, the hitter came clean: "I said, 'I was hungry. Besides, where else can you eat a hot dog and have the best seat in the house?'" Gates Brown. "I took a little English, a little mathematics, some science, some hubcaps, some wheel covers." If you want to talk about real reform, the most powerful single thing we could do is to end Citizens United. 16 years. That’s how long this has been poisoning the system. The campaign money dumped into both parties has completely skewed the legislative agenda. Big business. Big food. Big pharma. Tax cuts for the rich. Corporate welfare on an industrial scale. And the little guy gets nothing. Because we have built a separate but equal democracy. It has been 16 years since that decision. Now Trump has decided, I’ve got the ball, I’ve got the immunity, let’s go crazy with it. This is what unchecked money in politics produces at its logical endpoint. Get Citizens United off the books. Everything else follows from that.

The one thing people keep overlooking in the Clippers/Aspiration situation is how transparent the Clippers have been from the start. They’ve provided extensive evidence outlining the relationship between both parties some of it described as “above and beyond” in terms of detail showing the organization didn’t do anything wrong beyond trusting someone who clearly wasn’t who they claimed to be. I bring that up because a lot of the discourse has already jumped to potential disciplinary action against the Clippers, as if guilt is a foregone conclusion. It’s not. And the delay in any official findings only reinforces how complex this situation actually is.

I want to flag something that may have flown under the radar, but shouldn't. In December 2025, President Trump and @SecVetAffairs Doug Collins moved to ban access to abortion care at the VA, even in cases of rape, incest, or when the health of the mother is at risk. Earlier this week, the Senate voted on our bill to overturn that policy. 50 Republican Senators opposed it, meaning the abortion ban remains in effect. This threat to women's healthcare continues to be real. After losing elections in the wake of Roe falling, Republicans know that it's not politically popular to be publicly for abortion bans. So they do it just like this: quietly, in the dark of night, through bureaucratic rule-making -- hoping we won't catch it. Our veterans deserve access to abortion care. Period.
