@MeasureTwiceMNY @imericrife TurboTax definitely asks you the non deductible question. It is strangely in the deductions section but it does.

Unfortunately, TurboTax doesn't make this easy. You first need to tell it that you made a traditional IRA contribution (no mention of nondeductible contributions or Form 8606 in the questions). And if below the income threshold, it will automatically assume a deductible contribution (Schedule 1, Part II), and it makes you go back to that section manually to change it.

"Hey so with this nondeductible IRA contribution you need to make sure you're filing what's known as a Form 8606" "Yep, got it. I do my return in TurboTax. No problem" Narrator: they did not get it

I'm currently doing a deep dive into Marketplace coverage and costs across all 50 states (+ DC), and the results are mind-blowing depending on the county. For example, a married couple aged 60 in Charleston, West Virginia, pays over $31,000/year for the cheapest plan option (full price). And they lose a Premium Tax Credit (PTC) of over $47,300/year if household income goes a single dollar over $84,600. And many Americans won't realize the impact until they file their 2026 federal income tax return in early 2027. Imagine filing your taxes and realizing you have to pay back over $47,000 in excess PTC. That would mean paying (potentially back) 56% of household income toward the cheapest Bronze plan's premiums. That's before going to the doctor with a $21,200 deductible. #HealthInsurance #ACA #PTC

Which investment custodian is best? -Vanguard -Schwab -Fidelity Expect disappointment wherever you go. They all have their own unique issues. Moreover, they all suffer from the same challenges. And, that’s mostly telling you to fill out the wrong form. <True Story>

Today's adviser horror story. A client transferred $5.0m of VTI in a trust from Vanguard to Fidelity. The shares have $2.5m in unrealized gain. A Fidelity "adviser" recommended selling VTI, paying tax, and using a higher fee SMA (separately managed acct.) for tax efficiency.
