A humanities professor at an R1 university basically has to publish one single-authored peer review article per year (or even every other year), and a book every 5-10 years. That sounds like a lot but it’s not compared to other disciplines.

The impression one gets from the ongoing citation discourse on here is that humanities scholars just work much harder on their publications than others do

@pannapacker Tenure here on a 7 year clock is basically a book and 5 articles. Have to be good articles tho in top journals; a top press etc
