I agree with this "hot take."
We had a financial education class in high school. Most kids had zero care for it at the time.
Doesn't hurt to offer, but don't think it would solve as many problems as we make it seem.

One of my "hotter" takes on this subject is every high school could implement this tomorrow, and it wouldn't make a big difference. 99% of 14-18 year olds don't care about money. They care about dating, friends, making varsity, and getting As & Bs so mom/dad don't yell at them.

@darrelltalksfi Hmmm a few come to mind.
Gym equipment, fishing stuff, nights out with friends.
Don't regret any of them.

@CoachRolfes Can do so much good for yourself with a simple plan like this...especially early on.

@BarbellFi Gah dang.
Maybe I'm cheap but this is why I try to do most of our own vehicle maintenance lol.

@Invested_In_You Renting for 3 years set us up well to buy our first house.
And even after buying a house our mortgage, insurance, and taxes come out to about the same as what rent would be.
I’m a fan of both. Just have to run the numbers like you said.
English

Most people think renting is throwing money away.
It’s not always.
There’s a ton of added costs with home ownership that many don’t consider:
- Property taxes: 1-2% of home value annually
- Maintenance and repairs: 1% annually
- Insurance: $2,000+ per year
- HOA fees where applicable
- Closing costs to buy: 2-5%
- Closing costs to sell: 6-8%
On a $500,000 home that’s $10,000-$15,000 a year in costs before your mortgage payment.
Renting a comparable place for less and investing the difference isn’t throwing money away.
Sometimes it’s the smarter financial decision.

@BoujeeFinances More important than ever to not have cash stuffed under the mattress
English

@TheAlphaThought I don’t mind tipping when someone is waiting on us…what can’t stand is the tip requests for every fast food joint lol.

@cadeinvests nobody starts with big money, they just kept going when it felt pointless
English

@cadeinvests Just getting started is the most important thing a novice can do.
English

@cadeinvests Plus this is easier to start and build momentum with
Start small, focus on your 9 - 5 and raising your family
English

@LogWeaver Yep, why I’m a fan of eventually automating your investments
English

@cadeinvests Systems beat willpower, so starting small just builds the automated muscle.
