@terrynewman That’s not the society we’ve become, largely because women wanted full-time careers and you can’t have it both ways. Assuming this doesn’t change, the very few kids we do have will be better served growing up together rather than in an empty house.

I'm not suggesting yours didn't, and I'm glad to hear, but if people were having more children, they'd make friends with kids in their neighbourhood, like I did (Gen-X). I disagree that daycare employees are part of a family's village, or feel anywhere close to the responsibility that extended family members feel toward children. (I was raised by my maternal grandparents). The problem of a stimulating stay-at-home environment falls to the parents who should spend time with kids reading to them, introducing them to ideas and taking them out. It should not be the job of the state or companies.

Just an awful attitude to have toward children. And with fertility rates low here (and everywhere else), something that causes the province great concern about language, they come out with ads like this. Self-erasure.

@terrynewman Our kids went to neighborhood daycare and loved it. Many of their lifelong friendships began there. Both turned out well. I think we are evolved to have a village raise children and find it more stimulating than many stay at home environments, especially these days.

My honest first reaction to the suggestion that I send mine off to daycare after one year: "I'm abandoning my children to strangers." I was endlessly mocked by my ex-husband and his liberal/left friends for expressing this, but I was right for a number of reasons.

@CTVNews That’s not at all what they say. The claim is that there is a high level of agreement among doctors that social media is a problem, not that social media is “as bad” as smoking. It is actually far worse - children fry their brains before they even learn how to use them.

Perfectly encapsulates the corruption of the “native industry.” Life expectancies 10-20 years below norms, yet they gather to drink cocktails demand “justice” for anomalies on their land they have already been paid to dig. But once they dig the cocktails stop, so they blather on.

A journalist spent $11,000 on a forgotten island nobody wanted. Everyone thought he was insane. Brendon Grimshaw walked away from a newsroom career in Yorkshire, signed the papers four minutes before midnight on the last night of his Seychelles holiday, and inherited a dead patch of land called Moyenne. The place was a wasteland. Coconuts so tangled they couldn't even fall to the ground. No wildlife worth mentioning. Just silence. So he got to work. Alongside his friend René Lafortune, Brendon spent the next 39 years planting trees one by one. By hand. No machines. No crew. Just two men and a vision. 16,000 trees later, Moyenne looked nothing like the barren rock he'd bought. Then came the animals. He reintroduced more than 120 giant Aldabra tortoises, a species teetering on extinction. Around 2,000 new birds found their way back to the island. Today, two-thirds of all the fauna in the Seychelles call Moyenne home. Word got out. Tourism exploded across the region in the 80s, and developers came knocking. A Saudi prince reportedly slid $50 million across the table for the island. Brendon said no. "I don't want the island to become a favorite vacation spot for the rich," he said. "Better let it be a national park that everyone can enjoy." In 2008, that's exactly what happened. Moyenne became the smallest national park on Earth. Lafortune died in 2007.
