@writerofscratch Well yeah that original post is dumb. Going to a tourism hot spot during tourist season is a given.

@jee_vacation That's fine but then they shouldn't complain about "overtourism."

The only reason Japan has an "overtourism" problem is because y'all keep going to the same four of five places in a country that has so much more to offer. Earlier this week I was at a beautiful lake with beautiful cherry blossoms. I saw only five tourists in my 3 hours there.

@swvvnn Europeans not understanding that our states are bigger than their countries and therefore require different transportation norms. Are you all retarded or what?

@TBrit90 How long do you think Russia would wait to invade Europe without an American military presence there.

@KemiBadenoch This escalated fast. Unfortunately for the U.K., they have no way to hold it. They could not manage a mission like the one in the 80s. The U.K. has chosen to be an empire in decline. This possession is nearly 8000 miles from the British Isles. It will fall eventually.

The Falklands are British. Full stop. Not by accident. Not by ambiguity. We fought for them when it mattered most and paid the price. And because the islanders have chosen it, clearly and repeatedly. There is no debate on this.

Let’s think about this for a minute: HMS Invincible (light carrier): sold for scrap in 2011 HMS Hermes (light carrier) sold to India in 1986 Type 42 destroyer: retired 2013 HMS Antrim (destroyer) sold to Chile in 1984 Type 21 frigate: retired 1990s RFA Sir Galahad (landing ship): retired 1988 Royal Navy FAA Sea Harrier FRS1: retired 2006 The British could 100% NOT prevent Argentina from retaking the Falklands bc Britain doesn’t have a military to speak of.
OSINTdefender@sentdefender

Argentina seems to have forgotten what happened the last time they attempted to seize the Falkland Islands from Britain.

@DavidVance We can't remove Spain. But we can remove us. Simply close our bases, take our stuff, and go home.

Let me get this right; America is the driving power behind NATO but cannot remove Spain cos reasons.

America asked allies to maintain a minimum level of military capability. For a decade, NATO allies refused to do that and instead spent on generous social programs while mocking the US for not doing the same. All while living under the protection of the US military. 2/3

There were less than 100 personnel in town during the Falklands invasion. Now there is around 1,000 personnel at a dedicated airbase, with several infantry companies, support units, a Typhoon detachment, Sky Sabre fire group, offshore patrol vessel etc. Backed up by 700,000 sheep and 1 million penguins.

Britain could lose the Falklands because of weak leadership. It's not the 80s anymore, there's no Thatcher in charge and the UK is a depressing shell of its former self. If Argentina simply walks in and takes over, possibly soon with Trump's approval, what exactly will Keir Starmer do? Send an angry worded letter? Would he even care at all?
