@Zoom Thanks for the link. I was able to find the docs. I just didn’t understand why these were the defaults in the first place. Who wants to automatically turn on video or microphone automatically? Esp when switching, who wants to go from mute to non-mute by default?

@zoom why is it that automatic muting and turning off video are not defaults and separate settings for desktop and phone? I’m on calls on my desktop, switch to mobile, muted to not muted. It’s a terrible default experience. Yes, I found the separate settings, terrible defaults.

@crunchlabs My boys (10 and 8) got their first box with the disc launcher and were super excited. They couldn't find the tube/casing for the motor but they really wanted to build it immediately. So they cut up, reduced the circumference, and taped a toilet paper roll.

@stephmurrayyyy @TheAtlantic That's opposed to the more family friendly system with child tax credits and joint filing benefits. While I agree that the US does less from a regulation standpoint for benefits, there are advantages like tax benefits and superior healthcare.

@stephmurrayyyy @TheAtlantic One other aspect for families is taxation. For instance in the UK, the tax system favors two income households - you have bands of taxaxtion per earner. If you have two earners, you have double the amount in each band. So the UK effectively says it wants both parents to work.
