27-Year-Old Nigerian Migrant, Qudus Ajeyemi, Jailed 5½ Years for Attempted R@pe in the UK
A 27-year-old Nigerian migrant, Qudus Ajeyemi, popularly known as “Spartan,” has been sentenced to five and a half years in prison in the UK for attempting to r@pe a woman after a night out in Hull.
Ajeyemi, who was in the UK on a student visa, was found guilty of attempted r@pe and s£xual a§§ault following a week-long trial that ended on May 26 at Hull Crown Court.
He was sentenced on June 15 and will be deported to Nigeria after completing his prison term. He was also placed on the S£x Offenders Register for life and handed a seven-year restraining order.
The incident was reported in March 2023 by a woman who said she suffered a traumatic ordeal weeks earlier. After a party and club outing, during which she consumed champagne and vodka, she returned to a house on Tavistock Street, Hull, where Ajeyemi offered her a room to rest because she was intoxicated.
Prosecutor Charlotte Baines told the court: “Spartan led her upstairs and she lay down on the bed. “She thought that he would leave her there to have a sleep. Within a few seconds, Spartan was touching her.
“She pushed him off and told him: ‘I’m not here for that.’ Her response did not deter Spartan and he touched her again.” The woman repeatedly told him, “Stop. Don’t touch me,” before noticing he had undressed. When she tried to stop him, he pushed her, prompting her to flee downstairs in tears.
The court heard that Ajeyemi later contacted the victim via FaceTime, repeatedly apologizing and admitting what he had done. Unaware he was being recorded, he also sent messages begging for forgiveness. The recordings later became key evidence in the case.
Detective Sergeant Ethan Anderson praised the victim’s courage, saying: “Ajeyemi preyed on the woman, taking advantage of her and attempted to r@pe her in a space she ought to have been safe in, around friends.”
