The default source view for forges like GitHub today should be a derived tree of categorically related subsystems/components plus an agentic search bar, not the literal filesystem layout. Something close to this: haskellforall.com/2026/02/browse… I now default to finding what I need in codebases via agents. They do a better job finding the details I usually miss by just manually reading the files. I always backstop the search with "link to how you found this" so I can open my editor and read the code myself, but it gets me to the right place so much faster. Example from today: ampcode.com/threads/T-019c… But I do this constantly. And for both familiar and unfamiliar codebases!

What's the best online backup / disaster recovery (i.e. stolen laptop) solution for developers? I ask as developers are a special case with huuuge folders like node_modules which don't need to be backed up, and GitHub isn't sufficient when you have design, docs, secrets, etc.

Any suggestions for a running app for the Apple Watch that lets you create custom training runs w/ voice feedback? Example... 1 mi warmup 6 x 400 meter sprints with 400 meter recovery between 1 mi cool down Or say I'm wanting to maintain a 9 min/mi pace for 5 miles and each mile it gives me a pace update. I know Runkeeper has some of that, but I don't *think* it allows you to set up anything custom...it's just if you're using their plans?

The brightest human beings and technologists and the most talked about news is getting us more into a virtual world. I like it and can’t wait to try, I just wish we would put the same efforts to preserve the planet too and not only create virtual worlds to enhance our lives. They will be useless soon if we focus only on that… but hey Josh I am excited by this too! @joshelman nothing personal here at all, just a thought.

Here are a few singular/plural tips which, based on the number of errors I often see, a lot of people need to hear. The singular of phenomena is phenomenon. The singular of criteria is criterion. The singular of alumni is alumnus (male) or alumna (female).
