worst part about offering to ID beetles is the cold shiver I get in 1 out of 1000 cases where someone has an actual dangerous bug in front of them

@pseudonym_witty @wil_da_beast630 Do you mean hateful or hate-filled? You could mean either one, but used together in that particular sentence suggests you're unclear on the difference.

@pseudonym_witty @wil_da_beast630 Your username reminded me of when a teacher told me ”pseudonym” wasn’t a real word, and that it was called ”pen name” when a writer uses a different name than their real one. God, I sure do miss school!

It is definitely an important job that I’m also temperamentally incapable of lol And agree 100% with the over reliance on the expertise fallacy. I also see it from educators constantly. Which is ironic, because the research in the field is siloed, ideologically motivated, and has among the lowest replication rates in the social sciences.

There are few professions more likely to engage in the argument from expertise fallacy than teachers, even though their expertise is among the least objective and least impressive. I continue to admire them, most especially those who work in early childhood education, for doing an important job that I could never, ever do. But their expertise is not even close to being beyond disagreement.

This man is a teacher in my community. He may well end up being one of my son’s educators at some point. He blocked me after this. This attitude is why so many little boys are failed by our public education system. Also not surprising that he’s intellectually unequipped to understand the point I was making. Bright little boys with low trait agreeableness need direction and cultivation. They don’t get that from these people.
