Today, I met and congratulated our beloved former Chief Minister Sri Siddaramaiah on his illustrious, record-breaking innings leading our state. I first met him in 1983 in my uncle’s house in Mysore (Barrister Srikantiah, who was his Law professor) when he had just been elected as an MLA. In the decades since then, he has had a remarkable, impactful career. He has endured political ups and downs but never ever wavered from his strong commitment to social justice, secularism and rationalism. Truly inspiring, especially in this day and age. I thanked him for giving me an opportunity to work with him as Vice Chairperson of the Karnataka Policy and Planning Commission from 2023-24.

Participated in the meeting organised in Bengaluru as part of the study visit of the Joint Parliamentary Committee on the Constitution (129th Amendment) Bill, 2024 and the Union Territories Laws (Amendment) Bill, 2024 concerning One Nation One Election. Exchanged views with representatives of various political parties and public representatives on the subject.

Facing a loss in Lok Sabha, the BJP is playing to its script and blaming the opposition for undermining women's reservation. But the people see through the charade. If the government were serious about women's reservation, it would have approached it sincerely and taken the entire House in confidence. Instead, Modi Sarkar operated stealthily because its real agenda was to ensure a delimitation formula that will change the political future of India. Through these shortsighted machinations, the government lost a great opportunity to build consensus on women’s reservation and delimitation (which itself deserves detailed discussion and new imagination). Joined the Kerala election campaign in Kozhikode today where I addressed a press conference on the failures of the LDF government. Ten years of misgovernance have led to discontent amongst people. We also released the Research Department reference book documenting the LDF's poor track record. I also explained how the UDF’s manifesto promises will fix the problems and put Keralam on the path to progress.

In our Real State of the Economy 2026 report, we raised concerns that the government’s economic numbers do not match Indian people’s lived realities. India's national accounts data have been suspect for a long time now, earning a C-grade from IMF last year. A new research paper by Abhishek Anand, Josh Felman, and former Chief Economic Adviser to the Modi government Arvind Subramanian shows that Indian GDP was grossly overestimated during the Modi government's tenure. At the same time, data underestimated growth during UPA years, which was the decade of India’s fastest growth. The previous time the GDP series was updated, the Modi government went out of its way to try and show that its performance was better than under Dr. Manmohan Singh, resulting in some very odd outcomes. Hopefully, these new results will help provide a clearer picture of economic reality. Modi Sarkar should realise that continuously manipulating data results in decision making in the dark, which media and headline management can cover up for only so long. During his recent speech on the budget, LoP @RahulGandhi used insightful examples from Jiu-jitsu to explain recent political developments and expose the government's failures. A few days after that, he gave a demonstration of the parallels between Jiu-jitsu and politics, and life itself, to our AICC Research Department. It was fantastic learning about how to channel and overcome opponents’ strength through patience and clarity. For our young research professionals and our department office bearers, this was a valuable lesson on how to approach politics and how to be adaptable and overcome fear. The #UnionBudget2026 was lacking in ideas and empathy. 2025 marked a flight of capital from India, which contributed to a depreciating rupee. The budget offers no credible measure to revive investments. References to urbanisation and climate resilience are welcome but meaningless without a clear roadmap backed by substantial resources. India is not in a “Goldilocks moment” as the government has been claiming. Growth remains unequal and insufficient to capitalise on our demographic dividend. Welfare is shrinking, household savings are down and debt is up. Investors are clearly not buying the growth story and net FDI is negative.
