I have known @DougColtart personally for over a decade now. He is one calm and organised man passionate about constitutionalism and human rights. Seeing this video this morning made me so angry at how some Zimbabweans can be so barbaric and intolerant. The violent assault on Douglas Coltart at City Sports Centre is NOT just an attack on a lawyer, from my perspective, it is an attack on DEMOCRACY AND TOLERANCE. Public hearings are NOT war zones. Citizens are NOT enemies. Lawyers are NOT targets. What happened yesterday is a direct violation of the Constitution: • Section 58 – Freedom of assembly • Section 59 – Right to demonstrate • Section 67 – Political rights Zimbabwe can not claim constitutionalism while people are assaulted for speaking and expressing themselves. How do we build a NATION, when we can't tolerate diverse views? Public consultation processes should be peaceful, accommodative of diverse views and allow every Zimbabwean to express themselves without fear or favour. @LEADPartyZim demands: ✔ Immediate arrests ✔ Transparent investigations ✔ Protection of all citizens in public processes We refuse to normalise violence. What is so special about Doug Coltart @DougColtart losing a phone and the so called glasses? What makes his case any different, because he is white? Theft has always existed, regardless of who the victim is. I was once robbed of my phone at a church gathering myself.
