Is it just me or is weird seeing parents squeeze themselves into kiddie rides just to ride solo?

Hots&Cots is built on transparency & that applies to me, too. A few weeks ago, it was brought to my attention that the Android version of Hots&Cots was flagged by Exodus Privacy for containing Huawei code. The code came from the notification SDK I use, specifically, @onesignal, which includes optional support for Huawei Mobile Services. To be clear, I’m not anti-Huawei. But there are valid privacy concerns, especially for service members and government-adjacent users. Even if unused, just having those classes present can trigger red flags during audits or app reviews. Since then, I’ve been working diligently to strip out those components without breaking notification functionality. I currently have a bug open with OneSignal to get clarification and push for a more modular, privacy-friendly SDK. If that’s not possible, I’ll switch to a new platform. Privacy is important to me since launch and still is 1.5 years later.

Any chance I have followers that are proficient in Android development? I'm troubleshooting build merged manifest files.

If caring about how we feed our service members makes me “cry,” then yeah I’m crying. Because it is wild that professional athletes, whose job is to entertain, receive world-class nutrition, while the 1.4 million active-duty men and women who signed up to serve this country are dealing with closed DFACs, limited hours, and cold chow. Don’t get me wrong—I respect the athleticism and discipline it takes to play at the professional level. But we signed a different contract. One that includes the possibility of dying in service to the nation. And for saying “soldiers in WWII had it worse”—hell yeah, they did. They also fought in wool uniforms and stormed beaches under machine gun fire. That was nearly 80 years ago. We talk a lot about having the best warfighters (hot buzzword these days) and the best equipment. Well, nutrition is part of that equation. If you want top performance, you need to fuel it whether on the field or the battlefield. So if pushing for better food and quality of life for today’s service members is embarrassing to you… maybe you’re not the one we should be listening to.

@infantrydort @hotscots_app @DeptofDefense Just a quick stop by their page and I find a post crying that the 1.4 million active duty military members aren't fed the way we feed about 35,000 professional athletes. These dudes would die of embarrassment if they saw what world war two military chow looked like.

Huge thanks to everyone who helped spread the word about this weekend’s @aerhq campaign! Because of your support, I donated $60 to AER this morning and that doesn't include the matching donation from thatPAO. AER is an incredible organization. Last week, Tony shared a story about a Captain whose autistic son needed a special bed that Tricare wouldn’t cover. That same day, AER stepped in and covered the full $10,000 cost. This is why AER matters. If you can give—even a little—it goes a long way.

Appreciate a clarification I received from someone involved with the mission: the MREs seen in that photo were part of a 21-day contingency stock, not the primary meal plan. Soldiers are on full per diem and not reliant on MREs for daily nutrition. That’s good to hear—but also, read the room. With ongoing media coverage about BAS, DFAC closures, and food insecurity, it’s easy to see why soldiers and veterans jumped to concern. Context matters, and so does perception. Glad to know these troops are being fed right.
hots&cots@hotscots_app

We’ve shifted 92Gs away from DFACs toward field feeding, but then rely on MREs at the southern border? That’s not field feeding — that’s cutting corners. This isn’t a random voice. It’s a retired 3-star who gets it.

In 2024, we saw the biggest push that I can recall to improve military quality of life. Now? Radio silence. 🏘️ Barracks The FY25 NDAA included $1.2 billion for barracks construction and repairs—because troops deserve more than mold, leaks, and busted HVACs. It also mandated a digital work order system to report maintenance issues. 📶 Free Wi-Fi in Barracks The DoD launched a pilot program to deliver high-speed internet to unaccompanied housing. Finally, some recognition that service members need to stay connected—for school, family, and mental health. 🍽️ Field Feeding Crisis 92Gs (culinary specialists) are still being pulled from DFACs for field missions. Meanwhile, soldiers—including at the border—are stuck eating MREs for days. That’s not a sustainable solution. 🧾 The NDAA was a big win President Biden signed it into law, saying it provides "vital benefits for military personnel and their families.” But since then? Nothing. No updates. No next steps. Look—I don’t expect billion-dollar barracks fixes or full digital systems overnight. But I do expect a response. Even an update saying "We're working on it" would be better than this silence. We can’t let these historic gains stall out. Review? Bruh.... For? The Army has been honing their fitness standards and although not perfect, has improved immensely. How about a fucking focus on our DFACs? And why our troops live in almost squalor conditions? It's all connected baby. This is fucking squad leader shit. Our squad leaders have TRIED to fix this shit, and are unable. Ask the force. We have tasked the fuck out of our troops that a good fitness regimen is damn near impossible. oh and all the fat troops you see online? Commands are fearful of losing talent AND those individuals are RARELY afforded the opportunity to lose weight. Give or take some cases of course.
